Age-group placings: U14 Boys – Tai Mckenzie – 1st; Nikau Davies – 3rd U16 Boys – Archie Whithear – 2nd Congratulations to Jack Mckenzie, who was selected for the Canterbury Scholastic 2021 Surf team at the end of Term 1, with Nolan appointed coach. Unfortunately, the National Scholastic Championships in Taranaki – planned for October – were cancelled because of Covid-19. On behalf of the Christ’s College Surf Club, thank you Nolan for all your hard work. Nolan’s relaxed, yet passionate, approach certainly made a huge contribution to the club’s success. Thank you also to the parents for their support, particularly those who helped with transport often very early in the day. Nolan Hungerford and his Stoked Surfing team, the sessions included individual feedback and video footage of the boys. In the Wednesday competition heats, the boys surfed against three to four other surfers from local schools and judged as needed, providing fresh perspectives on what is required to improve and competition organisations. CANTERBURY SCHOLASTIC SURFING COMPETITION At the end of Term 1, Christ’s College was 1st overall – an outstanding achievement. Age-group placings: U14 Boys – Tai Mckenzie – 2nd U16 Boys – Jack Mckenzie – 1st U18 Boys – Gus Priest – 2nd; Adam Zhu – 3rd At the end of Term 4, Christ’s College had another narrow team victory, holding off St Andrew’s College and Shirley Boys’ High School.
Backhouse, Liam Barrett, Harry Beaglehole, Jamie Burdon, Sam Chittock, Ed Davidson, Nikau Davies, Joel Fulford, Archibald George, Jonty Inglis, William Jones, Ollie King, Oscar Malone, Jack Mckenzie, Tai Mckenzie, Gus Priest, Harry Rookes, Fergus Ryan, Willie Ryan, Bruno Vaughan, Archie Whithear, Adam Zhu The Christ’s College Surfing Club operated from Terms 1–2, with the boys attending coaching sessions on Mondays after school and early on Thursdays. On Thursdays, the boys met at a local beach at 6am, showing true dedication. On Wednesday afternoons, the boys competed in the Canterbury Scholastic Surfing Competition, usually held at New Brighton Beach. During the coaching sessions, the boys would chase the best surf at a range of spots, from Taylors Mistake, to Sumner, New Brighton or Waikuku. Coached and run by
