C3: Matthew Rothera, Sam Cross, Richard Brown, Dan Kelly, Angus Vincent, Ferg Richards, Teo Arndt Table tennis continues to grow in popularity at Christ’s College, with 38 boys starting the 2021 season. With six teams in the Wednesday competition, College had the most from any one school. With a high calibre of players, College was able to compete in A grade for the first time in several years. College also had three teams in B grade and two in C grade. We also greatly benefited from the ongoing support of coach Mike Hamel, and were fortunate to secure the services of John Cordue, a professional coach at
Canterbury Table Tennis. John played professionally in Germany and represented New Zealand on many occasions, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Although not as active on the national tournament circuit, John still holds the No. 5 position. Both Mike and John made coaching an enjoyable experience and the boys’ skills improved markedly over the season. We hope that both coaches will join us again in 2022 so we can maintain a high standard of coaching and player mentoring. College enjoyed another successful season and, pre-lockdown, three of our teams were set to play for a top-three placing. However, Covid-19
