coaching. The Junior and Senior A teams performed exceptionally well, with the Senior A team finishing the season with a solid 4th place finish in the Premier A competition, and the Junior A team coming out on top in the Junior Division 1 S2 Final against Burnside Junior B. For the first time, four senior social teams played in an in-school competition as opposed to the traditional Canterbury contest. This proved to be a great success, with increased engagement and many laughs across the four-week tournament. The (now) infamous College Porridge came out on top, with a four-game unbeaten streak. The Junior A team also performed well in the Canterbury Junior Championships held between Cowles

losses to talented Riccarton and Cashmere A teams at the business end of the tournament resulted in a final placing of 6th. However, the team continued to build on its foundations, with several players tipped to made big contributions to senior volleyball over the next few years. Covid-19 again caused disruption, cancelling the Junior South Island Championships to be held in Nelson. We look forward to taking a team to Nelson at the end of 2022. It is exciting to see the enthusiasm of many new players and the vast improvements to their play in such a short period. Despite the loss of some integral Year 13 players, the future of Christ’s College volleyball looks very promising. Claire Nicolson MiC

It was a great year for Christ’s College volleyball in 2021, with some of our best numbers and performances. College began the year with more than 100 players and 11 teams in the School Sport Canterbury competition. Thankfully, College enjoyed a full season without disruptions and, unlike 2020, was able to have senior teams in a range of tournaments throughout the latter part of Term 1. Our Senior A and B teams competed in the Canterbury Championships, followed by the Senior A team taking 1st place in Division 2 of the Mainland Championships – an awesome accomplishment. After a cheese roll fundraising stint (thank you to everyone who supported the team), College travelled to Palmerston North for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships – a first for Christ’s College. While we did not perform quite as well as hoped, it was an amazing experience for a team of very dedicated and enthusiastic boys. After a chaotic start to the Term 4 volleyball season – courtesy once again of Covid-19 – all seven teams entered in various Canterbury divisions performed well in a short but busy season. It was fantastic to see the development of many players through Nicky Pio’s expert

Stadium and Pioneer Stadium. Despite Covid-19 restrictions

preventing spectators, the boys got off to a flying start with victories over Papanui and Hillview. Unfortunately,
