College by leading the school in song at services and events. We were able to participate in the Big Sing in Christchurch. It was a successful outing as the boys performed their hearts out. We sang the newly actioned Whakamanawa ki te Atua , along with works by Mozart and Chris Artley. The Chapel Choir was awarded prizes for Best Mixed Choir and also Best Performance of a Classical Work. Following the local competition, the choir was nominated as a reserve for the National Big Sing Finale, which, unfortunately, did not take place because of the changing Covid-19- related Alert Levels in New Zealand. Unfortunately, we were unable to have our regular weekly and Sunday Chapel services throughout most of Terms 3 and 4. Nevertheless, the choir maintained its drive and determination to put together a live- streamed performance of A Festival of Lessons & Carols. The repertoire included a new piece of Hodie by Stroope, as well as the usual carols, which featured a solo by Albie Anderson in Once in Royal David’s City . This was a special service as it was the first live-streamed performance of the Chapel Choir and the Year 13s’ final service. The choir also put together two other new pieces, including a farewell piece for Rev. Bosco Peters titled To Walk With Your God , and a new Christ’s College Hymn for next year. A special congratulations must go to
learning. The day consisted of the students, including those from College, splitting up into groups and attending different leadership workshops. Although the day was altered due to Covid-19 restrictions, we still had speakers from all over the country come and share their knowledge and impart their wisdom. The day was a great opportunity for boys to find and establish their leadership styles and find resources to help them with their future leadership opportunities. Because of Matt Cortesi’s multiple roles around the school, he sadly had to pass on the oversight of the committee, with Callum Bell coming in to help. Callum brought a new spark and came with many great ideas and suggestions. With this change in staff also came a new time for the committee, with more responsibilities being passed onto the Year 12 students to provide better opportunities at running the committee. This was a good chance for the boys to test their leadership and prepare them for any roles they may hold next year or later in life. The continuation of identifying and rewarding displays of character strengths continued throughout the year, along with the promotion of different leadership workshops and opportunities. Unfortunately, a Covid-19 lockdown impacted on the planned leadership activities we had in store for large parts of the year. I’d like to thank all committee
members this year; Hugh, Bruno, Josh, Benji, Andreas, Levi and Will, you’ve made this job so much easier and far more enjoyable. To Matt Cortesi and Callum Bell, I have been greatly impacted by your mentorship and outstanding leadership and thank you for your contributions. Finally, to next year’s Head of committee, Oli Aikawa I have full confidence that you will do an outstanding job, so just enjoy it and do the best you can.
