Charlie Cameron
HM Chrystall Prize for All-round Merit in Sport and Scholarship Charlie’s sporting credentials are impressive. He is ranked No. 1 in New Zealand in U20 pole vault and was selected for the Canterbury Athletics team in 2020 and 2021, and the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Athletics team in 2021. He was placed second in the U20 pole vault and third in the senior men’s pole vault at the New Zealand athletics championships this year. A memorable moment this year was when staff and students crowded around on Upper to watch Charlie set a new school record. He was a member of the College 1st XI Football team for three years and made a strong contribution to this team’s successes. He has also voluntarily coached pole vault and Football. Charlie has a strong and consistent academic record, and is diligent and conscientious in his studies. He has managed all of this while being a very effective Head of Harper House. Charlie has been an outstanding role model, particularly in his humility and kindness, which are two of his top character strengths.
Henry Briscoe
Somes Prize for Outstanding Overall Contribution to the Arts and General Scholarship Henry has made an impressive contribution to the Arts at College. He has taken every opportunity and risen to every challenge. He has performed at a very high standard in all productions, including High School Musical , Evita , Much Ado About Nothing , and Oedipus Rex . He has played leading roles in senior productions in the past two years. Henry has also been a very valuable member of the Chapel Choir, Schola Cantorum and Collegium, as well as a member of the Big Band, as a saxophonist and vocalist. He has received Honours Ties for Drama, Choral Music and Instrumental Music. Henry has done all of this, in addition to his role as Head of Boarding, while maintaining a very strong academic record, as one of the top students in Year 13. He is generous with his time and has helped staff and students willingly in various cultural activities. He has been a fine role model to younger students in his dedicated and professional approach to rehearsals and performances. He has clearly demonstrated his top strengths of kindness, honesty and good judgement.
Jamie Barr
Maling Memorial Prize for Outstanding Service to the School Jamie will be remembered for his excellent people skills and his rapport with students and staff. Most aptly, his top character strengths include teamwork, honesty, forgiveness and social intelligence. All of these have been evident in his interactions with others and have enabled him to make a truly meaningful contribution to the life of the school. Jamie has given great service to Drama through his involvement in productions since he was in Year 9. He has been in the Chapel Choir for five years, an outstanding member of the College 1st XI Football side for three years, as well as captain of the 2nd XI Cricket side in 2021. He was a student ambassador for the Round Square International research project on leadership, and he wrote a report on the importance of courage in leadership. Jamie has been an excellent Deputy Head Prefect. He has also provided service to various organisations in Christchurch. He has shown kindness and humility, and been an excellent role model to others through displaying many of our desired graduate character attributes, most notably his disposition to serve. We thank him for his outstanding service to the school.
