James Currie
Wacher Prize for Academic Head of School James has maintained the highest academic record and standards in his time at College and his senior results represent a perfect record in terms of Excellence Grades. His approach to scholarly matters and his engagement with learning are impeccable. As you would expect, he was the recipient of a Gold Tie in Years 12 and 13. He also received Scholarship for Calculus when he was in Year 12. As is typical of our top achievers at College, James has achieved these superb academic results while being very busy in other domains of school life. He has been the age-group champion for College every year of his five years at College and has broken 10 Swimming records in the process. He has been involved in Drama and Theatresports, and was captain of Theatresports in 2021. He is a fine role model in terms of his respect for others and his top character strengths, which include kindness, love, humour and perseverance, are clearly evident in his interactions with staff and students. James has shown admirable courage and commitment in his time at College. He has been awarded scholarships from four universities – Auckland, Canterbury, Otago and Victoria. We have no doubt he has a very bright future in his tertiary studies and we wish him all the best for his future studies.
Jack Belcher
Head Prefect’s Prize and Ormsby Medal Jack is the epitome of the well-rounded College student and has set an outstanding example to others in his endeavours and his positive attitude to challenges. It seems extraordinary that he is a Gold Tie recipient, member of the 1st XV and the 1st XI, member of the Chapel Choir and Schola Cantorum, and also involved in the Big Band and Sax Quartet. He has managed all of this while leading the school with great maturity, calm resolve, humility and self-regulation. Jack will be remembered for his sage advice to the boys at Assembly, delivered with absolute clarity and sincerity, and with the occasional drop of wry humour. He has played a very important role in advancing the power of student voice and agency at this school this year. He has led the Prefect group very skilfully, aided by his top character strengths, which are characterised by the softer skills of leadership, such as forgiveness and fairness. Above all, Jack is a leader of undoubted integrity. He has been awarded a range of scholarships from the universities of Auckland, Canterbury and Otago and we wish him all the best for his bright future. We thank him for his outstanding service and leadership as our Head Prefect in 2021.
