Whether it’s the invigorating contrast of heat and cold or simply the meditative experience of being immersed in nature, Mersea Sauna oers a unique way to transition into spring with a clearer mind and a stronger body. Sauna use, dates back over 2000 years and has a long-standing tradition of being used to cleanse the body and mind. ere is a wealth of scientically backed health benets, including stress / anxiety reduction and improvement in sleep quality. Both sauna and cold-water therapy use, release feel-good endorphins and hormones such as serotonin and users report improvements to mood and wellbeing aer just one session. Although sauna / cold- water therapy is great in all seasons, there tends to be more appeal to getting outdoors in spring and people seek ways to shed o the winter and prepare for lighter and warmer days ahead. Do you notice a shi in the types of treatments or services your customers seek as the weather starts to warm up? How do you tailor your oerings for spring? We are quite a new business, and are experiencing each season for the rst time. We initially opened in the height of summer and customers were keen to have
the cold plunge as cold as possible and were delighted to watch the beautiful sunsets in the evenings. In autumn and winter, customers have really appreciated having the sauna to retreat to, as the cold weather sets in, especially as they were still able to enjoy being in nature and taking in the views of the Lake out of the window. We are looking forward to spring bringing lighter days and the opportunity for more. Cold-water therapy is gaining popularity for its health benets. Are there specic advantages to practicing it in spring, as the temperatures begin to rise but are still brisk? Cold water therapy has a great number of benets but those who are new to this practice should build up tolerance over time and listen to their body. You don’t need freezing temperatures or to stay in a long time to get the benets of cold-water immersion. We always recommend staying in for around 2 minutes, but there are advantages to even 20 seconds exposure. Many factors will inuence how cold water feels to you, including menstrual cycle for women, so it really is best to judge it on you feel that day / what your

Sauna use is a great way to boost immunity and protect yourself from illness. It has been found that sauna use is linked to signicantly decreased risk of developing various respiratory illnesses, as well as being able to relieve the symptoms of many existing conditions such as the common cold and asthma. Mersea Sauna is situated in such a stunning natural environment. How do you incorporate the beauty of spring’s blooming landscape into the overall wellness experience? e big one for us is having the large panoramic window in the sauna which allows customers to have a view over the Lake as they sauna. We also have the cold plunge tub situated on the Lake’s edge so the whole experience is very much grounded in nature and we embrace each season and any weather that particular day throws at us. Do you nd that the changing scenery in spring enhances the experience of sauna and cold-water therapy for your customers? How do they respond to the seasonal shi? It does indeed, we have been running. through some very dierent weather (some quite extreme!) and we nd our customers respond very positively to all of the shis. Recently we’ve had quite a few storms and it has been very windy at the Lake. We nd that these times can be really positive and really mood boosting, it is lovely sitting in the sauna hearing the wild weather outside and then taking the Nature & Environment
body needs. ere are no particular benets to practicing in Spring but the higher yet still brisk temperatures make it a very pleasant experience! Saunas have long been associated with detoxication. Do you recommend specic wellness routines during spring for people looking to cleanse and reset their bodies aer winter? Not specically, however if you are looking for an activity to boost your mood and refresh/ rejuvenate you aer the Winter, sauna/ cold plunge is a great option. For maximum benets we would recommend several sessions per week.

Similarly, we recently had our rst spring-like day and we found the response from customers was amazing. ere was a real buzz in the air and everyone appreciated how beautiful the surroundings looked and just enjoyed being in the outdoors. Spring is a time when people start to come together more for social activities. How does Mersea Sauna foster a sense of community among its visitors? Since opening, we have been really keen to bring authentic sauna to our local area and build up a community of sauna enthusiasts. All of our sessions are available to book as shared sessions and we nd that people really get to know each other and strike up friendships within the shared sessions. e sauna provides a great opportunity to switch o from devices and connect fully with those around you. We’ve also held special events, such as running the sauna alongside ‘Chilly Dips’ in the lake this month with Active Workforce, and SUP sauna socials, and we have found these events really foster a sense of community. For those new to sauna and cold-water therapy, spring seems like an ideal time to start. What advice would you give beginners who want to try it out for the rst time? We would advise anyone starting for the rst time to take it slowly and listen to their body. ere is no need to stay in the sauna or cold plunge for a set amount of time and you can build up your time slowly. You will get the most benet from staying comfortable and doing what is right for you! We would always advise anyone using the sauna to

hydrate properly also, this is really important. With the cold plunge, it is really important to learn to control your breathing and take deep breaths. is will relax the body and help you to stay in longer, safely. How does Mersea Sauna incorporate eco-friendly practices into its operations? Our sauna is wood-red and we source the wood locally from Lumberjack Logs in Little Crosby. ey assure that wood is sourced from sustainable sources and is kiln-dried by them onsite. Apart from that we have a minimal footprint, we have internal LED lights which are rechargeable and we have been considering adding a solar panel to the roof of the sauna to charge these. Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, are there any exciting new services, partnerships, or expansions planned for Mersea Sauna that you’d like to share with our readers? We are still in our early days and are fully focused on just continuing to build what we have and deliver the best possible service to customers. We hope to add another cold plunge tub as our customers really enjoy using these.

Our positioning so close to the Lake, the panoramic view out of the window, the high quality feel of the benches and the privacy aorded by the mirror eect on the window and door all oer a unique, special experience for customers. We are very lucky to be able to oer an experience set in nature but with great facilities on hand as customers have access to toilets, showers, changing rooms within Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre. Spring Cleaning & Refill Reuse Renew’s Mission
What was the inspiration behind the creation of Refill Reuse Renew and how has the business grown since it was first launched? Refill Reuse Renew accidentally came about from our own personal journey transitioning to a low waste lifestyle. When we were researching products to use ourselves, we came across a lot of greenwashing, a lot of products of poor quality and found that so many switches were so expensive therefore making it inaccessible for so many. Once we did find switches that worked and were affordable, we wanted other people to know about them and the business was born in 2021. We have worked our way through all the research, tried the products and are able to bring together affordable plastic free swaps all in one place.
Spring is the ideal time to renew a commitment to a greener lifestyle. How can Refill Reuse Renew support their customers’ sustainability goals and make this year’s spring clean more eco-friendly? As the lighter evenings draw in and we become more motivated, looking towards how we can switch up our lifestyles makes sense. I would always advise starting small and using up what you have first. Tackle one room at a time, for instance, and then even smaller than that, choose one product to change first. Take the bathroom as a possible starting point. Look at your bathroom and take a quick glance at what plastic you can

see. Make a commitment to change one product i.e. toothpaste to toothpaste tabs, plastic bottled shampoo for a refillable version, plastic toothbrush for bamboo. We would all love to tackle everything at once but the reality is it can feel very overwhelming and therefore then feel unsustainable. Try one swap, see how you get on with it and then move on to the next swap when your new habit is embedded. Do not feel guilty if something doesn’t agree with you either! Toothpaste tablets are not for everybody, bamboo toothbrushes may just be a step too far you … but you will find swaps that do work for you and build upon your own low waste lifestyle. We are all different and have our own needs. Celebrate your own successes. Once you have started to make changes, you will inevitably be on the next path to find your next swap. At Refill Reuse Renew, we offer plastic-free and refillable alternatives for all your cleaning needs. We have a full liquid refillable range from surface cleaners to floor cleaners to toilet cleaners and everything in between. We deliver to your doorsteps early on a Friday morning just like the milkman would, collecting your empty bottles and swapping them with your filled one. Empty bottles are then cleaned and refilled to be back in circulation. If you like to make your own products or are into bare ingredient cleaning, we stock all the essentials such as citric acid, white vinegars, bicarbonate of soda, all of which are also available as refillable options meaning the containers will be reused again and again.

For those wishing to make their spring cleaning routine safer and more eco-friendly, are there any must-have products you would recommend that can make a big environmental difference but customers can rely on for an effective natural clean? My favourite product has to be percarbonate of soda (green bleach). If you are wanting to freshen up your laundry while digging your spring wardrobe out, this is your go to. It brightens clothes, acts a stain remover and boosts cleaning power. It has a whole host of other uses. We use it as a toilet cleaner to blast limescale, cleaning washing machine seals, stain remover and much much more. What are your best selling products and why are they so popular with customers? Aside from the green bleach, as mentioned above, as I tell everyone how amazing it is so now this is by far our bestseller, next in line would be our Ecococonut scourers. We worked our way through many scourers before finding a brand we were happy with and these have definitely passed ours, and our customer’s quality tests. The record we have of a single scourer lifespan is 2 and a half years – for one scourer! They are round so get into the shape of the pan really well and are a good size to be able to hold comfortably. Why are these products so popular? They work. We are so passionate about only stocking products that do what they say they will.

What sustainable gifting ideas would you suggest to those shopping for Mother’s Day or those looking for a chocolate-free alternative Easter gift for children? Ooh great question. Honestly, this is going to sound odd from a business perspective but make your own gifts or gift experiences where you can. Mums especially will usually love that little bit of thought that goes into baking your own cookies and popping them in reusable jar, cook them a candlelit dinner, have a Netflix afternoon and watch a film with some homemade snacks – mum will probably appreciate the gift of time. Take the children for a Spring picnic in the park with a reusable Easter hunt set up. Of course, we know people are busy and if you are looking for some plastic free gifting inspiration you can find ideas over on our website such as playboard pop up and play toys or plantable books which are great for Easter and mums always, always love our plantable card range. Could you tell us a little about the brands you collaborate with and how they fit in with your ethos? Every brand we work with we ensure fit within our ethos. There is so much greenwashing within our area that it is so important to go behind the brand and really do our research before we collaborate and before something reaches our webpages. We also work closely with other local, small businesses such as Plant Vegan in Anfield where you can drop off your own bottles to be refilled and collected the next day.

Helpful Tips and Future Plans What can Refill Reuse Renew do to help potential customers adopt a more sustainable lifestyle by reducing waste and promote mindful living? We are completely non -judgemental here. We welcome conversations and questions. We are not pushy sales people at all, this business started to support more people into transitioning into sustainable living. We want to help you make choices that work for you and we completely understand that some swaps just aren’t achievable for some for their own reasons. As much as we try to change as much as we can, we are a neurodiverse household and there are some swaps that we have to compromise with until more options become available out there. New options are becoming available all the time. What’s one small change everyone can make this spring to make a big environmental difference and take the first step to a zero-waste lifestyle? We are all at different starting points and that’s OK. So what I’d say to anyone this Spring is commit to making just one change. For some, that may be no longer buying bottled water and instead carrying a reusable or ditching the takeaway coffee cup. For others, it may be reconsidering their commute with a car share or public transport. Whilst others still may be looking for plastic free, refillable options for their home. Wherever we are at, we can always make one change. I’m always happy to chat with people to see where their one change might be. What are Refill Reuse Renew’s plans for the future, and are there any new brand or business collaborations on the horizon? My summer collection is deeply inspired by the unique characteristics of Liverpool and London, two cities rich in history, culture, and vibrant energy. Liverpool's maritime heritage and strong connection to the sea are reected in airy, breathable fabrics and relaxed silhouettes, capturing the eortless, free-spirited feel of coastal living. e city's creative spirit, inuenced by music, art, and a strong sense of community, is woven into the collection through bold yet timeless designs that celebrate individuality. We have implemented several key sustainable practices to ensure the collection's production process minimises environmental impact. First, we prioritise using eco-friendly materials, such as organic cotton and linen, which require less water and fewer chemicals than conventional fabrics. Additionally, we have introduced natural nishing processes that reduce water waste and eliminate harmful pollutants. Our production partners are carefully selected based on their commitment to ethical and sustainable manufacturing. We work with factories that uphold strict environmental standards, including responsible water usage, reduced energy consumption, and ethical labour practices. Beyond production, we focus on sustainability in packaging by using biodegradable or recycled materials to reduce plastic waste. highlights is the red-striped maxi dress, which was initially planned as a midi but evolved based on customer feedback from our sample sale. Seeing the strong preference for maxi silhouettes with elegant balloon sleeves, we adapted the design to meet those desires. e red stripes, inspired by Liverpool's iconic red-brick university buildings, are timeless and eortlessly chic—proving that stripes never go out of fashion. Are there any unique collaborations or limited-edition items planned for this collection that your customers should look out for? Yes, this collection has some exciting, unique pieces, including two standout jacket styles that customers should look out for. One of them is our hand-embroidered jacket, an instant favourite during our sample sale, which is selling out ultimately. is beautifully craed piece comes in a classic white and powder blue combination, oering a fresh yet timeless look for spring. Based on customer feedback, we are also exploring a pink variation to meet growing demand. e intricate embroidery adds a touch of elegance, making it a perfect statement piece for the season. Another notable addition is our quilted block-printed jacket and vest, designed to be lightweight yet warm enough for breezy spring days. ese pieces use traditional block-printing techniques, ensuring each carries a unique, artisanal charm. e quilted texture adds dimension and enhances comfort, making it an eortless layering option. Can you share the story behind Love Loss Disco Balls? What inspired you to create this unique concept? Rachel has been an advocate for grief awareness and suicide prevention on social media for a little while now, sharing stories around the losses of her parents and her rst husband to suicide when she was pregnant with our little boy. Warren also understands how isolating grief can be aer losing his mum. We knew we wanted to create something meaningful together - and inspiration struck one day, as Rachel was writing an Instagram post about how depressing and out-of-date she found sympathy cards to be when she received them. Warren is a designer - with experience within the greetings card industry - so it just clicked. We extended our range to include support cards to encourage people to connect with friends going through dicult times, and we donate some of our prots to Campaign Against Living Miserably to further support in this area. We feel it’s both a wonderful tribute to the people we have lost, and something our son can be proud of as he grows up. e name "Love Loss Disco Balls" is so evocative. What does it represent for you, and how does it tie into the work you do? Our whole story is about love and loss, and we feel that our range of cards represent this too. e disco balls come in for a couple of reasons. We love the concept of a disco ball being lots of pieces of broken glass which have been put back together to form a magical ball of light, it’s a wonderful metaphor for the human spirit. No matter how broken we may be sometimes, we will always be beautiful. And the other reason is because we are big fans of house and disco music (Warren has a huge record collection and loves to DJ) – so we are very partial to having a dance underneath them too.
What was the moment you realised you could turn this idea into something meaningful for others? rough social media, we’ve connected with an incredible community, and what stands out the most is the abundance of love, light, and hope. Many people our age have experienced signicant loss, yet the cards available simply aren’t designed with our generation in mind. When we tested the concept with people in our community, the encouragement we received was overwhelming, and it became clear there’s a real lack of relevant cards available. Signing our agreement with CALM was a truly special moment for us. eir full support of the idea of using cards to promote mental health and provide support was incredibly validating - it conrmed that what we’re doing is something much needed. How do you go about designing your bespoke cards? Is there a particular story or theme you like to explore? It always starts with the colours for us. We chose our colour palette before we even began the designs. Warren has a background in design, print and typography and has always loved the special uorescent inks that have to be used for the colours we have chosen. Our cards have to be printed on a special lithographic press as you can’t achieve the pop of the colours using a digital print. We knew this might be more of a challenge as we couldn’t print on demand, but this was always a positive for us. We feel it makes them more special and of the quality we were aiming to achieve
