Spring is a great time for trying new things—do you have plans to introduce any new categories or types of products this season? We’re going to start working with a new supplier who specialises in table tops and bases, all new stock that can be mixed and matched for indoor / outdoor spaces, which is exciting. Also the new furniture ranges I’ve mentioned, as we’re going to embrace a more modern ‘Scandi’ vibe but still keep the old antique furniture and accessories. Lastly, what message would you like to share with the community about shopping local this spring and supporting independent businesses like Browsers Emporium? We’re very grateful to all our customers for their business and support, as they keep the shop going and drive what we do. We’d love to attract more new customers by diversifying and branching out with what we currently do and sell. It’s such a fun environment to be in, and I love that we get customers coming in from all walks of life who need dierent things. For example, a few weeks ago we sold an old antique folding screen to a gentleman who needed it for a stage production down in London! And I love working with customers who are buying gis for family and friends, as it feels quite special to be involved in their decision-making process. I suppose to summarise my message would be that we love working with people and want to embrace change by listening to customers – and that we need your continued support in order to keep on going, hopefully for another 30 years or more!
What are some of your favourite home décor pieces this season for customers looking to give their spaces a fresh spring makeover? Can you share a story about a particular product or piece in your store that perfectly captures the essence of spring? I’m very excited about a furniture range we have coming in from a new supplier we’ll be working with. I saw their items at the NEC Furniture Show earlier this month, and the items are more modern with a ‘Scandi’ twist – think light coloured wood and wicker, plus some unexpected curves! I think it will really improve how the shop looks and feels at this particular moment. I hope that in time we can house more items from this particular supplier, as they also sell beautiful rugs and other so furnishings at a great price, but we need to focus on making further improvements to the shop rst. Do you notice any trends in what your customers are drawn to in the spring compared to other seasons? Home bars seem to be very popular at the moment and people will quite oen have them in an outdoor space, so they need bar stools, chairs, etc. to furnish them. As a local business, how do you see your role in supporting the community during seasonal shis like spring, when people are eager to explore local shops and experiences? I would say by making sure that we’re open and available to talk to our customers, so we can help them nd what they’re looking for at the right price, and also make suggestions. I’ve only been here 6 months but Mark & Val – who own the business and have run it for nearly 30 years – have lots of expertise and can advise customers if they need something specic for their home or garden. How does Browsers Emporium create an inviting, seasonal in-store atmosphere for customers during spring? I’m hoping our shop refurb and general tidy up / reorga- nise will really improve the shop oor this coming spring, and make it look a lot brighter and more open.
