the key object to promote and encourage education by every available means. e board comprises 12 Trustees who are all volunteers, who manage the charity without any employees and who have a wealth of experience and a keen interest in Education. A number of our Trustees are either employed in Education or were involved in such work before retirement. Several of our Trustees are Liverpool City Councillors and are involved in the Schools, Education, and Employability committee work of the city. is diversity ensures that the trustees are kept abreast of the changing needs in the education sector. e trustees regularly review LEGCT’s work and consider whether new initiatives should be introduced or supported. For people who want to get involved—whether to make a funding application or to donate and become a supporter—what are the ways they can connect with LEGCT? Liverpool Secondary Schools that wish to apply for funding should use this link Liverpool Education Grants Charitable Trust. is details the grant / award criteria and includes the application form. Originally, the charity received its income from subscriptions made by individual donors who recognized the importance of funding education for pupils whose families could not aord to pay themselves. en, in a process which lasted many years, LEGCT was gied what in the charity world are called “endowment funds” which is a name for money which cannot be spent directly but has to be invested to provide an income which is then spent to meet the charity’s purposes. Nearly all the grants which LEGCT makes today are paid for out of the income earned by these endowment funds. But it is clear that with more money LEGCT could help more pupils in Liverpool schools. Gis could be made for spending in the next few years but, because LEGCT already operates an endowment
fund, it is also possible to make legacies and other gis which would be invested as capital and would continue to create an income to help future generations of Liverpool’s young people. Looking to the future, what are LEGCT’s main goals, and how does it plan to continue making a dierence in education over the next 100 years? We are proud of our long history stretching back into the nineteenth century. As an incorporated charitable company, we have a century-long commitment to supporting education in Liverpool and look forward to celebrating this milestone in September. anks to prudent nancial management, the organisation remains in a strong position to continue its mission. In line with our constitution, the Trustees are condent that we will sustain our support for Liverpool’s schools and students through grants and awards for years to come. However, we are always seeking to expand our impact. By growing our funds through donations and legacies, we can enhance the support we provide, ensuring even greater opportunities for future generations. Our vision for the next 100 years is to deepen our role in shaping education in Liverpool, fostering innovation, and empowering students to reach their full potential.
