It just makes sense that a teaching tool that works in the classroom would also work at home! For pennies a day, you can provide fresh, high-interest reading material. And, when your kids see you reading the newspaper, it models reading and life-long learning!
ooking for ways to help your child succeed in school?
A subscription to your local newspaper is one great way to give your students an academic edge. Research shows that students who attend schools where newspapers are used in the classroom perform an average of 10% higher on standardized tests.
Kids do better in school when parents are involved in their school experience. Attending back-to-school night at the start of the school year is a great way to get to know your child's teacher and to understand your child’s day-to-day school environment, teacher expectations, and more. The more familiar you are with your child’s teacher, classroom, and school, the easier it is to start a conversation with your child about the hours they spend at school each week. The more you show your interest in your child’s school and their learning, the more motivated they will be to succeed.
Grab the local paper and try some of these newspaper activities with your child!
Show a friend pictures from the newspaper with a piece of the picture missing. Then have them ask questions that can only be answered“YES” or “NO” to determine what is missing. What’s missing?
Look through the newspaper to nd ve or more ways people are working to protect the planet. Look for things that save resources, that save energy, and that can be recycled. Protecting Earth
Read an article in today’s newspaper and nd a quote from a person being interviewed. What question do you think the interviewer asked? Question Finder

library. Check out a bunch and read aloud. I guarantee you will also laugh out loud. Amelia Bedelia was rst created by a teacher in New York named Peggy Parish. Herman Parish was in the fourth grade when Amelia Bedelia was published.
One of the many funny things the literal-minded Amelia does is to knit little jackets for books. (Get it? Book jackets!) You can imagine what she does when instructed to“dress the turkey” and “dust the furniture.” It’s a fun- lled series that also builds literacy skills for children.
In addition to your child knowing you care about their school work, your child’s teacher will appreciate having you as a partner in your child’s education, too!
