ACTIVITIES AND AMENITIES THAT LET V EXPERIENCE THE SURROUNDING MOUN AND FORESTS IN WAYS OUR ANCESTOR WOULDN’T BELIEVE. BENEATH THE BLUEST SKY, A PERFECT DAY BEGINS
Meet our fellow residents. Black bear. Mule deer. Bighorn sheep. Miners were not the first to settle this valley. Black bear, mule deer, bighorn sheep and other animals still make their home in the surrounding alpine forests of Red River, and can often be seen on the hiking trails, crossing the ski slopes, and wandering through town. Even Red River Ski and Summer area closes early every spring to accommodate the elk migration. Native wildlife was here first, and we’ll make sure it’s here last. Wildlife sightings are a given and add beauty to the already spectacular scenery. Abandoned mines. Lost cabins. A history that’s present. The surrounding hillsides contain not-so-hidden secrets, the abandoned remains of old copper, silver, and gold mines. These relics staked an early claim in Red River’s identity and left behind a mining lineage that runs deeply through town today. Red River will never bulldoze the strong connection to its past. The bones of caved-in log cabins can be seen along some trails, framing a simpler way of life that has guided the town ever since.
Restaurants. No drive-throughs. Just good old fashioned, home-town cooking.
Virtually every restaurant in Red River is locally owned and operated, with menus crafted deliciously from the heart. Our low-key mountain town has a surprisingly large selection of culinary offerings: Steakhouses, Mexican and Italian restaurants, sandwich shops, diners, a brew pub, and more. Most restaurants are located on Main Street, or within walking distance of it. Dine at a place you can’t find anywhere else. Hotels, cabins, RV parks. Sleeping options. The Town of Red River has many types of lodging options, from hotels to condos to stand-alone cabins and RV parks. You, and whoever you bring with you, will be comfortable and cozy. Most lodging is in town or near town, so you’re always near the action.
