H appy spring! As you’ll see in this issue of Happenings , there’s always something blossoming at the library too! Thanks in great part to your generous support, our library continues to offer programs that enrich the lives of all ages.

As you look through this exciting spring issue, I’d like to call your special attention to programs that help our young readers to grow. Every Child Ready to Read programs make reading fun for the whole family – and our STEM/STEAM programs encourage kids of all ages to explore nature right in their backyard – perfect for springtime adventuring! There are bilingual storytimes that offer stories, songs, rhymes and activities to build all-important ready-to-read skills in English and a variety of languages – and sensory storytimes specifically designed for children ages 3-7 years with autism spectrum disorders who are neurodiverse or with different sensory abilities. These are but a few of the exceptional young reader programs offered by your library. “As we continue through the pandemic, donations from all of us continue to help our library transform and expand to meet the needs within our growing community.” This wide array of essential programming makes me so proud to support the library with my gifts to the foundation. As we continue through the pandemic, donations from all of us continue to help our library transform and expand to meet the needs within our growing community. Thank you for being so supportive – every gift grows readers every day! As we look ahead, we know how important it is, both to us personally and to our community, that our libraries continue to encourage lifelong learning, connect customers to technology and provide endless possibilities and resources for growth and enrichment. To support this critical mission, I invite you to “show your library love”by joining us on Library Giving Day ! As a special incentive, when you donate on April 6, Library Giving Day , you’ll receive a unique “thank you”gift that will help you show off your love of your library! Details about this special incentive are available at aacpl.net/donate . Thank you in advance for your support! I’d also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the legacy of commitment of two incredible founding members of our Foundation who recently retired from our board: Joan C. Beck and Anna E. Greenberg. You can read more about these amazing ladies on page 21. Please join me in thanking Joan and Anna for their many years of volunteer service, dedication and personal commitment to our foundation and to the library – we are better because of you both! Volunteering with the foundation is another fun way to give back to your library. Current opportunities and an interest form can be found at aacpl.net/foundation . One example is our Weed to Read volunteer group, an energetic group of volunteers who love to garden and have become instrumental in keeping the Michael E. Busch Annapolis Library grounds looking so beautiful. Late spring through fall, you’ll find them at the library early Saturday mornings; bring your gardening gloves and drop by – and be sure to visit the foundation website to learn about other ways you might get involved. As always, we are grateful for your ongoing support of the library. Every day, whether you are a volunteer or donor, you make your library better for our entire community. Thank you!

L ast year on Library Giving Day – a nationwide day to show support of public libraries – you wowed us by raising over $28,000 to support Summer @Your Library (S@YL)! This signature system-wide program is largely funded by the Library Foundation with an annual grant of $45,000. Without this necessary funding, there are programs, supplies and incentives within S@YL that simply would not exist without financial support from our community donors.

DIP TO DONATE! You’ll now find DipJars at most AACPL branches – a simple way to donate $5* to make your library better: • Dip your credit card • Wait for the arrow • When you see the lights, you’ve donated! *To maximize your donation, you will be charged $5 plus processing fees. The total charge will be $5.44. To give a larger amount, please visit aacpl.net/donate .

Throughout the four months of S@YL, the library offers programs for all ages from pre-readers to elementary age to tweens and teens to adults. Each program is designed to meet the needs and interests of the multigenerational members of our community. Did you know that S@YL provides a much-needed benefit to county children? S@YL develops summer reading habits and prevents the summer slide (loss of achievement when not in school). Both are vital components to building a strong foundation for school success, the joy of life-long reading and it’s fun! Join public library lovers from around the country by showing support for your favorite library on Library Giving Day and help us reach our goal of $45,000 for Summer @Your Library. On April 6 , your gift will encourage regular reading, foster a love of reading, encourage reading at all age levels and prevent the summer slide . Individuals who give a donation of a specific value will be eligible to receive complimentary fun library themed incentives, while supplies last.

TATTOO FUNDRAISER – COMING IN JUNE ‘22 Get some new ink to support your library at Lucky Bird Tattoo in Annapolis! Choose from an array of pre-designed, library related flash tattoos – and the Library Foundation will receive a percentage for each tattoo that is purchased. For more information email foundation@aacpl.net . Details coming soon!

$100 FOR 100 CAMPAIGN UPDATE Although this campaign has closed, we cannot thank everyone enough who donated and made $100 for 100 years such a success. The Library Foundation is actively working to create a memorial plaque,

featuring a list of donors, to be displayed in each branch. We are experiencing supply chain delays with vendors but we anticipate the unveilings to be held late this spring. Each of the over 1,000 donors to this campaign will hear from the foundation directly via email as updates become available. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We cannot wait to celebrate with you .
