GOAL 3: Create a destination-centered Recreation System consisting of both facilities and programming that allow opportunities for healthy and fun living. A) Policy Provide additional recreation facilities within the city.
Acquire/provide new areas for specialty recreation opportunities such as a skate parks, dog parks, areas for racquet sports (e.g. pickleball, badminton, tennis), and community gardening. Provide a new dog park. Construct/acquire/provide a new indoor aquatics facility. Explore potential partnerships with school districts. Consider providing a new splashpad and evaluate the opportunity for two new outdoor neighborhood-scale pools for additional aquatics recreation. Create a new community event space at the City Center at Herfurth Park. Secondary event spaces, such as an amphitheater, can be provided at the Signature Recreation District and the Signature Gateway. Provide new areas for paddle launching, and in some cases boat launching, with associated amenities at Scenic Point Park, Paddle Point Park, Bayside, the Signature Recreation District, and the Signature Gateway to correspond with new and improved paddling trails and with a new focus on providing recreation access to the lake.
