Identify, purchase if necessary, and preserve unique natural and open space areas, habitat, and plant and wildlife within the community. Expand the City’s parkland area by partnering with developers and other individuals and groups. Encourage the preservation of open space by individuals, companies, non- profits, and public agencies to enhance the livability, aesthetic value, and natural beauty of the city. Require improved and activated parkland from new development through revised zoning regulations and through discretionary zoning requests by developers. As Bayside and other areas continue to develop, ensure that connections and access to the beach are provided with access easements and applicable wayfinding and on-site signage where feasible. Evolve the City’s parks and recreation areas into branded destinations that can be marketed and thereby communicated to residents and visitors in ways that create a branded sense of place.
