Insider NEWS | WHAT’S LOOMING

Ramin began his own rug business, but soon part- nered with Keyvan Rahmanan—a partnership that spanned three decades—and became one of the most prominent firms in New York City’s wholesale carpet trade. Ramin and Keyvan formed the Antique Rug Studio, which was alternatively known as RADRNYC. Keyvan split his time between this venture and his other company, French Accents, which focused on modern and contemporary rugs. Ramin was the constant of the Antique Rug Studio, guiding its growth over 30 years to become one of the lead- ing resources in New York City, the United States, and beyond for antique decorative rugs and carpets.

Ramin was beloved by colleagues and co-workers and was known throughout the industry for being hard working, dedicated, intelligent, and innovative. He was a forward thinker who was quick to connect the traditional world of antique rugs with the modern internet marketplace and social media. He was beloved by his staff at Antique Rug Studio, many of who brought their families from far and wide to meet Ramin, a leader who was fair, hard working, gra- cious, kind, and a guiding father figure. Ramin was married to his dear wife, Ronit, for 19 years, and had three adoring children: twin daughters, Shira and Noa, and son, Eliah. He is also survived by his mother, and two broth- ers, Afshin and Shayan.

David Zadeh of Symourgh Rugs Passes at Age 79

T he New York rug trade lost one of its stal- warts this past spring with the passing of David Zadeh of Symourgh Rugs. David was born in Hamadan, Iran, in 1945. He attended boarding school in London and moved to New York in 1970 to study at Columbia University. After graduating, David followed several entrepreneurial pursuits with his father, including selling antique Persian carpets. David quickly established himself as a significant rug vendor in the burgeoning New York City antique rug trade as some- one who traversed both the wholesale and retails sides of the market. He developed a large network of colleagues and clients and was well known not only in the rug trade, but also in the interior design and decor trade.

David was an avid collector of Bezalel jewelry—a passion he learned from his grandfather, who supplied the Bezalel School in Israel with silks and natural dyes from Iran. In addi- tion, David enjoyed Persian art, especially from the Persian Qajar dynasty era. David was a champion backgammon player, earning trophies, awards, and distinctions in worldwide competitions. Known for his generosity, David sup- ported numerous schools and institu- tions, including the local Chabad in New York City, as well as several schools and Yeshivas in New York and Israel. David passed away in March after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by a brother and two sisters, as well as countless colleagues, cli-

ents, and friends.

The Rug Insider family is greatly saddened by the loss of John, Ramin, and David. We offer our sympathies and condolences to their families, colleagues, co-workers, and friends.
