CHARIOTEER: A story of Old Egypt in the Days of Joseph, by Gertrude Eberle. This full-length novel has grown out of the author’s curiosity as to the details of Joseph’s life after he was sold into slavery and taken into Egypt. Mrs. Eberle’s wide travel in Egypt has enabled her to depict the customs of that land, and Joseph’s part in them authentically from the standpoint of Egyptology as well as that of the Bible record. From the first glimpse of the long dragon-like c a r a v a n of Ishmaelite merchantmen twisting its arduous way over searing desert sand, to the last great royal chariot race in Memphis, the reader is swept through a colorful fast-moving d r a m a of suspense, pathos, intrigue, love and struggle. As plot and counterplot unfold, in the heart of Raanah, the hero, a violent spiritual conflict rages, out of which faith in God emerges triumphant over trust in the famous goddess, Ishtar. This is an authoritative and factual dealing with the great questions of science and their relation to the Bible. Dr. Highley begins with the opening sentence in Genesis and, in a m a s t e r f u l way, progresses through the weighty material there to the account of the fall of man. The treatment, though convincing, is not heavy, and can be easily compre hended by y o u n g e r readers. The author’s purpose “to show that the Bible and true? science agree, and to

show the deceptions of evolution, and to honor the Creator,” seems to be adequately realized. 287 pages. Flem ing H. Revell. Cloth. Price $2.00. THROUGH THE ROOF, by Sarah Elizabeth Gosselink.
