Gospel of John was written so that we might KNOW (John 20:31). The Epistle of John is filled with the word know, for it is God’s will that each one have a personal meeting with Christ and realize in his heart that a new birth has taken place and a new life has entered. One cannot tell another the way unless he knows it himself. The Gospel of John read and re-read will bring assurance to the soul and will make one sure that he has “passed from death unto life.” 2. YOU MUST BE SURE YOU KNOW GOD AND HIS WAYS. John 17:3. The sinner does not know God. He knows that there is a God, but only those who have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ with the soul and believed on Him with the heart can know the heart of God and the ways of God. No man can come to the Father ex cept through Christ (John 14:6). Only Christ can bring us to God (1 Pet. 3:18). Only those who know the Lord Jesus can know God the Father. (John 14:7). God’s way of dealing with men is revealed only in His Word. There fore, we must know our Bible if we would understand God’s program. We can only know it as we read it con stantly and study it prayerfully and thoroughly. Those who know God best, serve Him best. Those who seek Him, find Him and learn to know Him. 3. YOU MUST BE SURE YOU SERVE THE LORD PROPERLY. Heb. 12:28. Most young people desire to serve profitably, and wisely. Much that is called church work or Christian work is a waste of time and has no real value either for this life or for the next. Those who serve the Lord should read carefully Isaiah 28:23-29. This passage gives God’s plan of service and His manner of ministry. We can leam how to do the service of the King by observing in the Word of God how it was done by others. We can also leam by reading the lives of such men as Spurgeon, Moody, Livingstone, Patón, and Ironside. Their ministry was blessed by the Lord, for they served God in His way and there fore enjoyed His blessing. Let us leam to serve in a way that will please the blessed Lord of the harvest. 4. YOU MUST BE SURE THAT YOU LIVE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. 1 Tim. 4:16. It would hardly be proper to send a bald-headed man to sell hair tonic. Neither would it be wise to appoint a man who had rheumatism as a salesman of rheumatic medicines. So when a young person desires to go out with the s t o r y of God’s good Gospel, he should be a living example of that life which he professes. He should know in his own heart the blessed effects of the doctrines he teaches. He s h o u l d show to those about him the wonderful effects of the precious truths of the Word of God in his own life.
