The Alleynian 704 2016

bouncing balls were among the eclectic, projected cinematic imagery. ‘The Big Draw’ saw 210 students immersed, for the first time, in many exciting day-long workshops. Drawing with sticks, tearing newspaper, dripping ink, shaping straws and manipulating cut card were just some of the contemporary drawing approaches introduced with the help of postgraduate students from the Royal College of Art. The launch of ‘Click, Make, Draw’ saw the typical after-school club grow into a student-led community, creating an ‘art school’ environment with which pupils of all ages and abilities could engage. The Laboratory played host to two exhibitions, the most recent being a collaboration with Dulwich Picture Gallery and renowned sculptor Peter Randall Page, what was to become the Variations on a Theme project. Dulwich boys worked creatively with student peers from the Charter School under the auspices of the Southwark Schools Learning Partnership. Having taken it over on four separate occasions, The Store has in many ways become our spiritual home. The annual and typically spectacular Interim work-in-progress exhibition from the Upper School was echoed strongly by Negative-1 , the maiden exhibition by students on our newly established Pre-U course, and at the recent AS and A2 Final Show Primed , highly polished final pieces alongside ambitious multimedia installations were strong reminders that Art at Dulwich continues to redefine A-level expectations. Importantly, the most recent exhibitions were managed, curated and hung by the students themselves, to create a real sense of ownership
