AROUND DULWICH

Avisual time capsuleof our daily lives Daniel Dalmau (Year 12) provides an update on the ways that College life is being captured on film by Dulwich’s own TV channel D CTV exists to share and celebrate the myriad achievements of Dulwich students. The society facilitates the creation and production of film and video both within the College and externally, which means students can view more of the vast array of cultural and sporting events that take place every day. DCTV provides a way for students to express themselves through various forms of media and to experiment with multiple forms of creative and visual expression, opening up a world of opportunities and experiences in all aspects of the media production – a well- established and growing industry. In addition to this, boys have the chance to document their lives at the College, creating a visual time capsule for posterity. This year, DCTV has been involved in a number of projects drawn from different areas of College life. We have made a short film documenting the Southwark School’s Human Rights Conference run by the human rights charity Liberty International; we assisted the Friends of Dulwich by making a short film documenting the Dulwich Christmas Fair; and we created a film record of Dulwich Inventive.

Four pilot episodes of our exciting new DCTV News have been filmed, involving boys in the entire creative process, from filming and production to reporting and presenting. A project for the Dulwich Archives with author and former Head of English and Keeper of the Archives Jan Piggot, showcasing his book about PG Wodehouse, included recording him reading extracts about Wodehouse’s time at the College. Finally, we also created a variety of other film material in anticipation of the College’s upcoming 400th anniversary. We have high hopes for the future at DCTV. We hope to work with younger members of the College in order to offer young film makers the opportunity to work with older students, helping them to gain experience whilst also allowing them to develop their own unique creating style. We also hope to cover even more of College life and activities by having a stronger presence on MyDulwich, the College’s intranet, once it has migrated to the 365 network. This will allow us to present the work of our creators to the whole College in the hope of inspiring and discovering true creative talent through film.
