A Shared History
In the 1920’s Pierre Counot used his engineering background and University contacts to open the factory now known as Pierre Counot-Blandin. From his first series of furniture frames Pierre was working with some of the most important designers and projects of the time including Emile-Jacques Ruhlman, Andre Arbus, and Jean-Marie Rothschild for the SS Normandie. In 1993 Pierre’s grandson Gaetan D’Hotel started working at the factory as an apprentice. By 1995 Gaetan was traveling across the globe visiting clients of Counot-Blandin and expanding the small factory’s international reach and by 2000 he was running the factory. In 1995 American design icon, John Hutton, came to Europe looking for manufacturers capable of creating the esteemed designs he created in the United States. When he found Pierre Counot-Blandin and Gaetan, his destiny was changed immediately. Within a few years John Hutton was living in France and designing his own signature collections. His son and partner, Douglas Hutton, also moved to France to manage Hutton’s Collection Pierre, Ensemble London and PiiArt. The collections outgrew their European markets and in 2006 Douglas returned to the United States to open Hutton Collections, a distribution company tasked with introducing all of the John Hutton European collections to interior designers around the world. As of 2013 Hutton Collections is now a partner/owner in Pierre Counot-Blandin. For more information please visit counot blandin.fr
