MAJOR Marketing

HOMETOWN Mosinee, Wis. ORGANIZATION United Way of Portage County Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE Marketing Specialist Intern

What I did: During my time at United Way, I was responsible for helping plan, design, and schedule out social media posts on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn for United Way’s main page and its volunteer page. Along with this, I helped update its website by redesigning outdated webpages and making sure current pages had accurate and updated information. I also created print materials such their first newsletter, multiple promotional posters, buck cards and handouts. Digitally, I was responsible for updating their social media pages, writing press releases for events, and sending out email campaigns and invites. Other projects included helping create new ways to market the organization and planning a collaboration for the 2-1-1 helpline with local colleges. Additionally, I did some small tasks around the office such as making phone calls and helping mail out letters. What I liked: Overall, I really liked my internship at United Way. I enjoyed that they always gave me a variety of tasks and projects I could work on with different levels of difficulty. This kept me busy and interested in the work I was doing. As for the work itself, I loved creating both the print and digital materials. I liked that it was a mix of design, marketing and writing. I appreciated that my supervisor was always willing to help me achieve my goals by letting me have a say in what projects I worked on. Lastly, I enjoyed working at a nonprofit organization and learning more about how a nonprofit is run and marketed. Future Dream Job: My future dream job would be either a marketing manager or a marketing specialist.
