FORGED IN THE NAVY

Enlisting on June 15, 2001, Bowers underwent rigorous Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman (SWCC) training, completing operations across the globe in Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and Malaysia. The military instills a level of discipline, adaptability, and high-stakes teamwork that few other environments can match, qualities Bowers seamlessly translated to the business world after earning his business degree from the University of Houston-Downtown. “Veterans understand sleepless nights, teamwork, brotherhood and sisterhood, and how to work with people from all over,” Bowers explains. “Those skills translate directly to entrepreneurship. When you build a business, you need people who can represent you and execute with discipline.” His drive to serve didn't end when he took off the uniform. Exactly 25 years to the day after enlisting in the Navy—on June 15, 2026—Bowers instinctively jumped into a swimming pool during his children’s swim lesson to rescue a baby trapped inside a submerged stroller. Whether driving a lifted truck through flooded Houston streets to rescue trapped residents during Hurricane Harvey, or sourcing and distributing face masks to protestors during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bowers has continuously answered the call to protect and uplift others.

MARCUS BOWERS

THE SERVANT LEADER: FROM NAVY DECK TO NATIONWIDE EMPIRE How Navy Veteran Marcus Bowers Turned an $800 Investment into a Business Powerhouse Built on Purpose, Resilience, and Community. When Marcus Bowers talks about service, he isn’t just referencing the uniform he once wore as a Sailor in the United States Navy. For Bowers, service is a lifelong posture—a guiding philosophy that spans military missions, high-stakes entrepreneurship, and community rescue operations. Long before co-founding She’s Happy Hair and scaling it from an $800 investment into a nationally recognized multi-million-dollar brand, Bowers learned the fundamentals of social responsibility in his Houston neighborhood. Raised by a mother who was always looking out for local families, Bowers grew up experiencing community support firsthand.
