Domus Line and sustainability

Kitchen Lighting with LED As the kitchen is both a social atmosphere and a workspace, you want a mixture of ambient and task lighting. Ambient lights will set the mood with a soft glow, while task lights will focus stronger light over key work spaces such as an island or countertop. The key is balancing the two sources so the kitchen is as warm and inviting as it is functional.

Task Lighting Task lighting is important to illuminate your most used work spaces such as bench tops and islands. These lights should be considerably brighter than elsewhere in the room. Often times, this will require lighting fixtures that can be installed under wall cabinets, beneath shelving, or on the wall behind the work surface. Darker spaces such as pantries can also benefit from additional lighting, illuminating corners and making it easier to find items. Automatic sensors are a good option for these areas, with lights turning on and off as the door opens or closes.

Benefits of Choosing Domus Line LED The light-emitting diode (LED) is one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technologies. Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting. Energy Savings LED lights use up to 80% less energy than standard incandescent light bulbs*. With 13% of a typical New Zealand family home power bill spent on lighting # , this can amount to a significant saving over time. Not all LEDs are created equally however, with some using more or less energy to produce the needed light. This efficacy is calculated in lumens per watt (lm/W). Watt indicates the amount of power a bulb uses to provide light, while lumen is the unit to measure the light output of a bulb. Therefore the higher the lm/W, the more efficient the LED and the higher the savings on your energy bill. Long Lifetime LED have a claimed life expectancy of at least 15,000 hours. At an average of 3 hours of usage per day, 365 days a year – this could mean up to 13+ years before you will need to replace your lights. This makes LED lights ideal for hard to reach places, where replacing them can be difficult and/or dangerous. Additionally, LED lights do not suddenly fail, but will slowly lose their brightness over time, and frequent on/off switching does not impact the lifespan of LED lights. Low Heat Output LED lights generate very little heat. This means they can be recessed into furniture or be used to light artwork without damage. They are also safer than traditional lights as they will stay cool to touch even after several hours of usage. Durability LED lights have a robust design, making them far sturdier than traditional light bulbs. Since LEDs don’t use fragile components such as glass and filaments, LEDs are able to withstand shock, vibration and extreme temperature. Instant Light LED lights will work at full output instantaneously – so there is no waiting for a light to warm up or brighten up slowly.

Degrees of Protection Ratings

IP Ratings are otherwise known as ‘Ingress Protection Rating’ are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness against foreign bodies such as dirt and moisture. You will often see IP followed by 2 numbers (IP00), the first number in an IP rating is the level of protection against solids such as dust and the second number indicates the level of protection against water, e.g. IP(dust protection level, water protection level). Sometimes there is the third digit used – normally an ‘x’. This is when only one rating is being addressed, e.g. IPx4 is only referencing the moisture rating. According to the EN 60529 classification system:

Your bathroom is divided into 4 zones. Below is a guide to figure out which zone your light can sit within based on your IP Rating. Zone 0: Inside the bath or shower. Any lighting used must have a minimum rating of IP67. Zone 1: Above the bath or shower to a height of 2.25m. A minimum rating of IP44 is required. Zone 2: The area stretching to 0.6m outside the bath or shower and above the bath and above the bath or shower if over 2.25m. A minimum IP Rating of IP44 is required. Outside the zones: Anywhere beyond zones 0, 1 and 2 where water jets are not used for cleaning purposes.

Holl Holl is a patented luminaire with a unique slim and circular perimeter of light. For recessed installation, a blind routed ring groove is needed – Ø73mm outside, Ø53mm inside and 12mm deep. Alternatively, clip in the optional centre cap and fit to a Ø73mm and 12mm deep hole. The Holl range also includes models for surface mounting. If you’re seeking a mix of downlight and strip lighting, Holl’s attractive ring effect pairs beautifully with Domus Line’s super flexible, slim AT6 and SE H4 LED strip options. Available in steel colour and black finishes, in both recessed (BH) and surface mounted (SP) models, there’s a Holl to suit. Plus, if you prefer, you can add a clip in cap (TH) so the central portion sits flush with the top of the light ring.

Apex Dark Apex Dark is a one-piece extrusion and diffuser that combines the functionality of a light with the aesthetics of a refined dark screen finish. The Apex Dark diffuser is a multi-layered co-extrusion, which guarantees a dark finish when the luminaire is switched off, and a sophisticated luminous effect with no dots when the luminaire is switched on. Apex Dark is designed for recessed installation in a blind or through milled groove and is recommended for use under shelves in wardrobes and cupboards. Domus Line ‘sliding’ SHE6B Pro LED strip is the best light source option for Apex Dark (order separately). It has been produced without adhesive tape backing so it slides easily into the profile.

Nexus Nexus is a micro profile designed to achieve linear lighting solutions customised ‘to the millimetre’ for narrow, shallow recessed use and also for surface applications. Nexus comprises a universal profile in an anodised aluminium or matt black finish, plus distinct opalescent diffusers and installation accessories for either recessed or surface installation.
