Returning for its fifteenth year, the 2020 Market Focus will cover an even broader selection of informative and on-trend optical communications topics from a number of leading industry professionals. Top network equipment manufacturers, senior executives, key analysts and the principal FTTH industry body are among those confirmed to deliver thought provoking seminars and inspire discussion.

Tuesday 8th December The morning session on day two will begin at 12:00 (CET) and features presentations from IHP, Sicoya, LioniX International and Synopsys. At 13:20 (CET) we are joined by Dr Martin Fiers from Luceda Photonics who will look at how a code-centric design flow for PIC looks like and will explain how we can borrow techniques from software development to manage design complexity and deal with uncertainty, and go to market faster. The morning session will finish with a discussion on 3D Wafer-Level Microoptics For Ultrafast Optical Fiber Communications from ICON Photonics. Michael Lebby, from Lightwave Logic, kicks off our afternoon session at 16:00 (CET) to discuss the latest results on stable EO polymers whose operating range has been extended for the first time to include 1.3 um through advanced polymer engineering. It will also review the latest work in photonics roadmaps (IPSR – International Photonics Systems Roadmap process, 2020) that look out towards 1600 and 3200 Gbps aggregated data rates, and multi-Tbps optical switching solutions, and how these challenges can be addressed by polymer- based technologies. Ayar Labs will follow to present an overall chip-to-chip communications architecture featuring remote laser sources and discuss the impacts on next-generation computing systems.

The discussion then moves to Datacentres with presentations from Arista and Source Photonics before EXFO’s Guillaume Lavallee presents strategies for accelerating 5G fiber rollouts and delivering stringent quality of service (QoS) performance results, while maximizing ROI. The afternoon session closes with a presentation from Sanjai Parthasarathi with a look at Compound Semiconductors and Engineered Materials Enabling Advances in Biomedical Optics. Wednesday 9th December The final day of the event opens at 12:00 (CET) with Yamaichi Electronics presentation on Evolution of Form Factors (for pluggable transceiver modules) from a connector maker’s perspective. The afternoon session opens at 16:00 (CET) with a discussion on Execution and deployment challenges in 400G ecosystem (SP and DC) and road map evolution towards 800G and different solution (pluggable, on board, co- package) followed by Paul Brooks from VIAVI with a draw upon VIAVIs experience in test and validation of coherent pluggable modules and delves into the new challenges posed by 400G including DSP, module management and high speed electrical interfaces. The afternoon session will finish with a discussion on the increasing role that coherent optics will play in cable’s optical access and the opportunities of these emerging use cases for the telecom and data center industries.

2020 Timetable

Due to the event going virtual, there will be a few changes to the way Market Focus will work this year. We have structured the timetable to allow as many attendees as possible to join live. There will be a combination of live and pre-recorded presentations, and once the event has finished, we will be uploading all content for on-demand viewing which will be accessible for 6 weeks. Monday 7th December The opening Market Focus session from Victor Lopez from Telefonica, begins at 12:00 (CET). He will present an update on the work done within the Open Optical Packet Transport group at TIP, and will be followed by a panel discussion from additional speakers from TIP. Dr. Maxim Kuschnerov from Huawei will join us for look at AI-aided DSP design for coherent optical networks, at 13:00 (CET) and this will be followed by Antonella Sanguineti from Ericsson as she discussed the new roles of Optical and Packet networks with the advent of 5G RAN architectures. The afternoon session opens at 16:00 (CET) with a presentation from Jupiter Networks on Automation and Autonomous Network solution in Cloud Native architecture. Followed by Ian Alderdice from Ciena as he reviews the evolution of optical modules, introduces the progress made with C-CMIS to date and how it will apply to real-world deployments of 400ZR, as well as exploring the challenges ahead for defining the next generation of coherent pluggable management interfaces.
