As this is the inaugural column of The Professor's Challenge, THE PROFESSOR thought he would start our readers off with an EASY ECONOMIC QUESTION: Question: A prudent investor should be concerned with the effect that inflation has on real rates of return. Therfore, if Treasury bills are currently paying 3.9% and the inflation rate is 2.1%, what must the exact real rate of return on your investment be?
