The Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority welcomed about 90 members and guests of Commercial Real Estate Women of the Lehigh Valley to an informative luncheon in the main terminal of Lehigh Valley International Airport this fall. Airport officials shared master plan concepts for the next 25 years, including efforts to develop nearly 300 acres of land near the airport. Future development can include hotel and retail establishments at the airport. Darren Betters, director of business development for the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, noted that economic de- velopment projects now under discussion can provide future revenue streams for the agency. Both passenger and cargo traffic are showing consistent growth. Fed Ex recently opened a major hub in close proximity to the airport, which plays a major role in its distribution system. Amazon has two major warehouses in the airport’s immediate service area. The afternoon concluded with a behind-the-scenes tour conducted by a staff member of the Transportation Security Ad- ministration to review baggage handling procedures.
