christmas on state street at the jacob henry mansion
Ages 55+
For decades, Christmas in Chicago meant a trip or two to State Street to see the big department stores. And the stores went all-out for Christmas! This illustrated presentation by historian Leslie Goddard PH-D traces the history of Christmas celebrations on State Street. Photographs, ads, postcards, menus, and memorabilia trace cherished traditions - from the animated window displays and the Christmas parade to beloved characters like Uncle Mistletoe, the Cinnamon Bear, and of course, Rudolph the red-nosed Reindeer. We will take a tour of the beautifully decorated Jacob Henry Mansion prior to the show, as well as The Old Central Church after. Cost includes transportation, lunch, and the show. Registration deadline is November 29th. (GH) Min/Max: 7/14 R/NR: $87/$109 Location: Meet in CORE Lobby
