out w ith a g reat deal bigger head th a n heart. I believe th a t is th e reason so many fail;, they have big heads and little h earts. If a man has a shriveled- up h eart and a big, head he is a mon ster. Perhaps Moses looked down on th e Hebrews. Tflere are many people who sta rt out w ith the idea th a t they are g reat and other people are small, and they are going to bring them up on the high level w ith themselves. God never yet used a man of th a t stamp. Perhaps Moses was a slow scholar in God’s school, and so He had to keep him th ere for forty years. But now he is ready; he is ju st the man God wants, arid God calls him. Moses said, “Who am I? ” He was very small in his own eyes-—ju st small enough so th a t God could use him. If you had asked the Egyptians who he was, they would have said he was th e biggest fool in the world. “Why,” they would say, “ look a t the opportunity th a t man had! He m ight have been commander of the Egyptian army, he m ight have been on the throne, swaying th e scepter over the Whole world, if he h adn ’t identified himself yith' tjiose poor m iserable Hebrews! Think what an opportunity he has lost, and what a privilege be has thrown aw ay!” He had dropped out of th e public mind for forty years, and they didn’t know what had become of him, but God 'had His eye upon him. He was the very man of all others th a t God wanted, and when he m et God w ith th a t question, “Who am I ? ” it didn’t m atter who h e was bu t who his God was. When men learn th e lesson th a t they are nothing and God is every thing, then th e re is not a position in which God cannot use them. It was not Moses who accomplished th a t great work of redemption, for he was only the in strum en t in God’s hand. God could have spoken to Pharaoh w ithout Moses. He could have spoken in a voice of thunder, and broken th e h eart of Pharaoh w ith one speech, if He had wanted to, but He condescended to take up a human agent, and to use him. He could have sent Gabriel down, but He knew th a t Moses was the man wanted above all others, so He called him. God uses men to speak to men: He works through m ediators.’ He could have accomplished th e exodus of th e children of Israel in a flash, but instead He chose to send a lonely and

do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land, and in all th a t m ighty hand, and in all th e g reat te rro r which Moses showed in the sight of all Israel.” Deut. 34:10-12. When God met Moses a t the burning bush and called him to do. as g reat a work as any man has ever been called to ill th is world, he thought th e Lord .‘ , had made a mis- COMMENTS take, th a t he was SELECTED not th e man. He By K eith L. Brooks said, “Who am I? ” H e was v e r y ' small in his own estimation. F o rty years before he had started out as a good many others : have started. He though t he was p retty well equip ped for service. He had been in the schools of th e Egyptians, he had been in the palaces of Egypt, he had moved in th e bon ton society. He had had all the advantages any man could have when he started out, undoubtedly, w ithout calling on the God of Abraham for wisdom and guidance, yet he broke down. How many men have started out in some profession and made a failu re of it! They haven’t heard th e voice of God, they haven’t waited upon God for instruction. I suppose Moses thought th a t the children of Israel would be greatly hon ored to know th a t a prince of th e realm was going to take up th e ir cause, but you remember how he lo st his temper and k illed ,th e Egyptian, and next day, when he interfered in a quarrel be tween two Hebrews, they wanted to know who had made him judge and ru ler over them , and he had to flee into th e desert, and was th e re for forty years hidden ■away. -He killed' the Egyptian and lost his influence thereby. Murder for liberty; wrong for righ t; it was a poor way to reform abuses, and Moses needed training. It was a long tim e for God to keep him in His school., a long tim e for a man to wait in th e prime of his life, from forty to eighty. Moses had been brought up w ith all th e luxuries th a t Egypt could give him, and now he was a shepherd, and in th e sight of the Egyptians a shepherd was an abom ina tion. I have an idea th a t Moses started
