tu res of rejecters and unbelievers through all ages. Jesus claims th a t the foundation and condition of salvation is H is gift through faith in Him as Lord. He declares the blessings of salvation: (1) They shall never perish. (2) They are safe from th e terro rs of eternity, death and judgment. He declares the absolute protection which they enjoy. (1) “No man can pluck them out of My F a th e r’s hand .” (2) “I and My F ath e r are one.” (3) “Therefore, no one can pluck them out of My hand .” This is indeed “co-operation of F ath er and Son in th e whole economy of salva­ tion .” The Jews understood Him to claim oneness w ith God, tru e Deity. He af­ firmed th e ir understanding of th a t claim. They were therefo re compelled to choose for or against Him. Our lesson today is about a man named Lazarus— a man whom Jesus loved very much. The man had two sisters, Mary and M artha, and they all

question the in teg rity of th e early church which, by- its life and works, set its seal to its verity. This claim of Jesus is to be tested by His works. His words and His works must be in exact accord w ith th e words and works of His F ath er. Read th e record. Test it for yourself. The Jews surround Jesus in the Temple,— some curious, some crafty, many calculating. Their object was to obtain from Him a defi­ nite statem ent regarding His Messiah- ship. They had heard Him before. Some of them had been distorting His words, others denying His authority, many of them trying to deceive multitudes as to His tru e authority, power and worth. 2. The scope of His claims and the h ea rt of His message: He faces them, favors them w ith the tru th , and forces them to a decision. He makes eternal claims, such as stand forever unshaken. They refuse to believe Him. They become furious a t Him. They seek to destroy Him. They are the tru e pic­ so th a t th e life should com­ pel acceptance of Jesus Christ?
