ENGINEERING+ DESIGN

02

At the early stages of the contract, our Structural Engineering Department provides our clients with an initial Concept Design of the proposed method to replace the flare tip. Following the client’s approval, a full design, complete with calculations, is provided to the client. An analysis is carried out on the existing support boom or support tower.

OFF SITE F.A.T. VERIFICATION

Prior to transporting the temporary lifting frame to site, the F.A.T. is third- party verified. In addition, an experienced installation crew is selected. This same crew is used to carry out the F.A.T. build, which is typically undertaken at our testing facility, to check fitting and constructability and therefore the selected team are completely competent to perform this demanding task.

OFFSHORE INSTALLATION OF LIFTING FRAME

08

The flare is typically the last to go offline and the first to go online. At the start of the shutdown, the temporary works are installed together with the temporary lifting frame and the frame is tested in‑situ to its S.W.L. If temporary access is required, either due to no in‑situ access platform or the poor condition of the access platform, it can be designed and installed.

OFFSHORE FLARE TIP REMOVAL+ REPLACEMENT

10

The old flare tip is released and lowered to the FPSO/Platform deck or to a service vessel as in the case of a boom arm. The new flare tip is then lifted and secured into position. Any service lines can be repaired/replaced at this stage. The temporary works lifting frame and any temporary access are then removed, allowing the flare tip to go back online. We have pioneered the design of a purpose-built lifting frame to improve the process of replacing flare tips. The lifting frame is positioned directly below the termination point of the flare stack thereby negating the use of expensive barge cranes or helicopters. The lifting frame has been designed to take the weight of the old tip as it is lowered to the deck and is designed to lift the new replacement tip into position. This innovative solution to a complex and expensive problem is now being adopted on FPSO’s and offshore platforms around the world, and is an excellent example of our design capabilities delivering significant commercial benefits often in remote and demanding locations. Temporary Lifting Frame Fabrication > The temporary lifting frame is designed and fabricated for offshore and ship dynamics. > Ship surge, sway and heave acceleration. > On-board lift dynamic. > Brackets for installation access support are built into the lifting frame steelwork for quick and safe installation.
