MENTAL HEALTH

SUPPORTING CHILDREN OF PARENTS WITH MENTAL HEALTH DIFFICULTIES

This workshop helps school staff understand the unique challenges faced by children whose parents experience mental health difficulties, and how these may impact learning, behaviour, and wellbeing. It offers helpful approaches for providing consistent, compassionate support in school while also engaging families with sensitivity and care. DELIVERED BY BEP’S EXPERT MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING TEAM. This two-hour workshop introduces the ways parental mental health challenges can affect children’s wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in school. Through discussion and real-life examples, staff will develop a deeper understanding of how these experiences might show up in the classroom and how to respond with empathy and awareness. The session also offers simple, school-based approaches to support pupils and maintain sensitive communication with families. Staff will leave with increased confidence and practical, compassionate ideas for fostering a safe and supportive environment for children facing challenges at home.
