Resolution Road Map Using Smart Written Plans to Your Advantage

The holiday season and the new year are upon us. The year’s end is a time of resolution and starting fresh. Setting resolutions is a way to articulate values — a way to go through a planning process to set oneself up for success. Many times, when we set resolutions for ourselves, we are resolving to do something differently to yield better results, or to put a plan in place to implement and incorporate positive and successful mindsets. Here at Wolf Retirement Navigation, we are all about planning and finding solutions for every potential “problem.” I am a firm believer in smart written plans to achieve goals for retirement — both short term and long term. Short-term and long-term aspirations differ greatly. There is a significant difference between working to lose 5 pounds and working diligently to lose 50 pounds, and sometimes long-term goals can be overwhelming. There is a lot of strategizing, analyzing, and planning that goes into figuring out how to achieve a goal or resolution that is achievable five or more years down the road. However, if you are assisted along the way by a professional, the looming anxiety of navigating your aspirations is eradicated. The same is true with retirement planning. It is important to always keep in mind that the road map is dynamic; and as life changes take place, together we tweak goals and plans to best serve the overall achievement of reaching or even exceeding the long-term goals already set in place. As we approach the end of the year, if you do not have a plan in place or if your road map needs refreshing, don’t wait. the short-term goals that are necessary to check off in order to reach the larger more long-term end goals. Some long-term goals are those that encompass smart investment growth and protection, tax planning, Roth conversions, Social Security maximization, Medicare, or required minimum distributions. Short-term, even immediate, resolutions may involve lowering all types of fees, minimizing risky investments, or limiting market exposure. By developing smart written plans, we are quickly able to resolve these problems or, better yet, prevent them from ever becoming a problem in the first place. Keep Your Hair Lush in Retirement 5 Tips for Good Hair Health as You Age

If your hair stylist has a quote on the wall, odds are good it’s this one: “Invest in your hair. It’s the crown you never take off.” No one knows for sure who came up with that saying, but the older we get, the more truth there is to it. It takes time and energy to prevent a lush head of hair from turning into a sparse one. Everyone’s hair thins, lightens, and gets brittle with age. It’s a sign of a long-lived life and nothing to be ashamed of. That said, there’s no reason to lose your hair before your time! Here are five strategies to keep your crown shining as long as genetics allow. 1. Never skip the protein. According to the Cleveland Clinic, your hair is made almost entirely of protein, and it will suffer when you don’t eat enough! Dermatologist Wilma Bergfeld recommends eating low-fat red meat a few times a week for hair health, but you can also get protein from plant-based sources like tofu, lentils, and chickpeas.

products without parabens, phthalates, sulfates, alcohol, or silicones. (Healthline.com has a great guide for this!) You should also buy products made for your hair type, whether that’s oily or dry, coiled or curled. Finally, avoid dying your hair at home or regularly styling it with heat. Both things will damage your locks! 3. Avoid crash diets. When you lose a lot of weight at once, you can shock your body and either slow your hair’s growth or cause it to fall out! To avoid this, aim for a slow, sustainable weight loss instead. 4. Be gentle with your locks. To keep your hair looking its best, swap your brush for a wide-tooth comb, always be gentle with tangles, and if you have longer locks, avoid styling them in tight buns, braids, or ponytails. High-tension styles can damage your hair. 5. Reduce your stress. It sounds like a cliche, but the healthier you are, the healthier your hair will be! To boost your health, try minimizing the stress in your life with regular exercise, outdoor activities, meditation, and plenty of sleep.

2. Choose natural products that are tailored to your hair type. When you’re shopping for shampoo and conditioner, look for

JAXPAL TOY DRIVE

This year, in our efforts to spread holiday cheer, Wolf Retirement Navigation will be hosting a Christmas party for some really awesome kids on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the JaxPAL Westside location. Back by popular request, we are organizing a toy drive to ensure that all the children have a Christmas they will cherish and remember for many years to follow. Seeing their smiles as they open their gifts is one of our greatest and most rewarding moments during the season of celebration. Their ages range from 5 years old to 12 years old. There are several ways you can help to brighten this year’s Christmas for the kids. One way is to purchase a handmade one-of-a-kind ornament, crafted by Robin’s father, for you to enjoy on your very own Christmas tree or that of a friend or family member (available to purchase at both our offices in addition to our December 9, 2021 Client Christmas Party). Proceeds from the sale of the ornaments will contribute towards gift purchases for the children.

Of course, you can always contribute to the Christmas fund with a monetary donation. If you prefer, you can choose a new, unopened item to wrap and bring to the Client Christmas Party or bring to either our Jacksonville office or our Clay County office. We ask that all gifts, no matter which one you may choose to give, be with us no later than Monday, December 13, 2021 . That will ensure our having your generous donations in hand for the kids’ party on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Thank you so very much for helping to make this season of giving a memorable and special season for these deserving kids and a reminder that they are loved by so many!

• Why You Need to Replace Your Furnace Filter PAGE 4

WAIT, WHY DO I NEED TO REPLACE MY FURNACE FILTER? Read This, and You Won’t Forget

It’s easy to forget that the air quality in our home isn’t just magically clean! Dust, contaminants, and allergens can easily circulate in your home. Luckily, your furnace filter is your first line of defense — but it won’t clean your home’s air if you don’t replace it often. A dirty filter can even cause expensive utility bills and damage your HVAC equipment.

system has to expend more energy to operate, and you’ll probably turn up the heat because it’s not working as efficiently. Your equipment is working twice as hard for half the result.

with allergies, and a few furry friends, you may want to consider replacing your filter more often. However, a great way to determine how often to change it is to look at what type of filter you have, categorized by thickness:

Many other problems can occur when furnace filters aren’t changed, including “short-cycling” your HVAC equipment. Dust-heavy filters can cause your equipment to run at a higher temperature, and it might overheat and shut off. Even though it might cool down and start up again, the cycle will continue in the same short bursts, thus “short-cycling.”

For 1–2-inch filters , replace them every 1–3 months.

For 3–4-inch filters , replace them every 6–9 months.

UNDERSTAND THE TRUTH ABOUT FURNACE FILTERS.

Furnace filters are designed to trap airborne contaminants to prevent them from entering your heating and cooling system! So, when you forget to change your filter, the delicate components of your heating and cooling equipment suffer. For example, imagine your filter is dirty and clogged. Your HVAC system might continue to run, but air won’t circulate properly. Your

For 5–6-inch filters , replace them every 9–12 months.

If you need more help, try calling your local HVAC professional and get their opinion! They may even give you further information and insights about keeping your home’s air quality healthy.
