Mechon, Hecla Train PWSC Students

PWSC received hands-on training from a team of AMA members this spring. “We recently had a visit from Roger Mechon, owner of RLM Tech Inc., who taught our millwright program students about the slurry pump. Not only did he go through the entire pump with our students, but he also led them in taking it apart and reassembling it. “This invaluable opportunity was made possible by the generous donation of the slurry pump from his company and Hecla Greens Creek Mine. We are incredibly grateful for the partnership between our millwright program and these two companies. It allows us to provide our students with hands-on, real-world experiences essential to their education.” RLM Tech has provided specialized pumps to the Alaska mining industry for decades. “Having Mechon teach the class brought our students a wealth of knowledge and expertise. He gave them insights into the workings of the pump that they would not have been able to gain from textbooks alone. Additionally, taking apart and reassembling the pump gave our students valuable experience with a critical

component of industrial machinery. “Partnerships like these are essential to the success of our millwright program. By working closely with industry professionals and companies, we can ensure that our students learn the skills and knowledge in high demand in the job market. We are thrilled to have had this opportunity, and we look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships with companies like this. “Thank you to Roger Mechon, RLM Tech Inc, and Hecla Greens Creek Mine for donating the slurry pump. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated, and we are excited to see how this experience will impact our “My wife gives me a lot of grief for rambling on stories but after being involved with industry in Alaska for close to 50 years, there are a lot of stories. And some are meaningful. “The younger generation (young enough to be our grandkids) are the ones that need to bridge the old experiences with the new techology. The training organizations are working diligently to make that information bridge. I was very impressed with the PWSC training including some of the advanced technology that they are exposing the students to. I also commend ARE for ALL that they do. Ella, Beki and all of the others are working hard to expose young kids to reality rather than the woke stuff that the schools are focusing on. I have an opinion and it certainly is opposite to the trend that seems to be taking over the schools. student’s education and future careers.” Roger is modest about his donations. “One last comment. Everyone should see the old black and white movie “Fahrenheit 451”. That movie dates back to very early 60’s and should be required viewing for young people and even our age group of people. That movie stresses the importance of transfer of information and experience from generation to generation!”
