WELCOME! Since spring 2019, the Anderson Classroom to Career (C2C) Center has made possible for the Sentry School of Business and Economics to have its internship presentations in an expo format, where students who had internships talk to other students and faculty about their experiences, in a very engaging and interactive atmosphere.

Students who visit the expo also have the chance to network with employers in the area and hopefully establish connections for future internships or even full-time job opportunities. We have had students getting internship offers on the spot in the last two expos! We are excited to see everyone at our in-person event on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Students will have the chance to connect with interns and employers, learn about specific internships that were done this summer, and receive Pro Events credit. Here is a preview about our summer 2024 students and their internships. I hope you enjoy the Sentry School of Business and Economics Internship Expo!

Prof. Ricardo Boeing, Ph.D. Sentry School Internship Director

KAYLA HORNAT ’26

MAJOR Business Administration HOMETOWN Portage, Wis. ORGANIZATION Noah’s Ark Waterpark Wisconsin Dells, Wis. TITLE Human Resources Intern/Assistant

What I did: • Facilitated orientations for international employees • Prepared employees uniforms • Helped fill out form like I-9s, social security applications and tax forms • Preformed desk duty jobs such as receiving and distributing mail, helping clean the dorms and talking with the international employees about their issues • Helped create weekly employee events What I liked: I really loved the culture of the workplace. I got to learn so much about other cultures and make some international friends. I also truly loved working in the dorm even though it was not really related to the job I took on. Working in the dorm allowed me to communicate with other employees and learn more about them. I also loved getting the experience of working with a slight language barrier. This made me really consider how I was wording things and made me think about the best way to explain. It really opens your mind to slow down and think. However, orientations were still my favorite part of the entire job. I got to be the first person to greet them at Noah’s Ark and help them fill out forms that were really boring, so I always tried to make it fun. Whenever I was waiting for them to show up, I would play music and start by asking them their preferred names and where they are from to make the orientation feel a bit more personable rather than just a long boring presentation we have to do. Future Dream Job: My dream job is somewhere in HR. I would really prefer it if it were in recruitment and orientations as I love talking to people. I also love marketing, but I do not feel super creative, and recruitment is basically just marketing but for potential employees. I really liked working with international employees so I would consider Noah’s Ark in the future or a company who mainly partners with international employees.

HOMETOWN Wausau, Wis. ORGANIZATION Menards Wausau, Wis. TITLE Management Intern

What I did: I had a variety of projects and activities I had to do for my company. I also was given tasks to do that my sales department managers had to do, like having the phone, working on solving guest complaints and working on morning paperwork. What I liked: I worked as a department manager intern, and my favorite part was beginning to learn management at a lower level. I have also got to learn a little bit about high-up management works too, and I know that I don’t want to just stop at a department level. Future Dream Job: I’m not quite sure where exactly I want to end up yet. In the next six months I want to decide if I want to just finish my bachelor’s degree in 2025 or if I want to continue for my masters and finish that in 2026. I also don’t know where I want to live yet. These all play factors on what my dream job is. I know I want to be high up in a company but I’m not sure where, what aspect or what exactly I want to do. I want to continue to explore my options and learn more about things before I make a final decision.
