Sentry School Internship Expo Program Summer 2024

LUCAS THOMPSON ’25

MAJORS Business Administration; Finance

HOMETOWN Westfield, Wis. ORGANIZATION Sentry Stevens Point, Wis. TITLE Claims Intern

What I did: Work on a case competition presentation and business plan, pass all requires licensing and certifications, navigate claims handling software, review claims, make liability decisions, contact insureds and claimants, document precise claim files, contact other insurance companies, make payments for repairs on vehicles, communicate with team members for projects, continue learning throughout internship, etc. What I liked: A few things I really liked about this internship is how from day one you felt very welcomed and part of the team. There was no one that looked at you any differently for being an intern because most of the people around me in my department were once interns as well. Another thing that I liked about this internship is how open everyone was to answering questions that I would have. I have come to find that claims adjusting is a lot more complicated that I thought so I am constantly looking around for someone to answer a question and I never felt in the dark. Lastly, I like the certain perks that Sentry gave me as an intern: stipend lunches, large golf discount at SentryWorld, volunteer time off and so many more aspects that I was able to enjoy not even being full- time. Future Dream Job: A newly found future job that I have is a field underwriter for insurance policies.
