Department Initiatives

After a national search for a new police chief, effective January 25, Neil Noakes is the new Chief of the Fort Worth Police Department. Chief Noakes has been with FWPD since 2000. He has served in multiple ranks across the department in areas such as Patrol, Traffic and Internal Affairs. He earned his bachelor ’ s degree in Criminal Justice Administration form Tarleton State University and his master ’ s degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Texas Christian University (TCU). He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute ’ s 137th Administrative Officers Course and TCU ’ s inaugural Leadership, Executive and Administrative Development program (L.E.A.D. #1). Chief Edwin Kraus announced his retirement in July 2020. New Chief of Police

Lifesaving Actions

Three FWPD Officers, Officer Morgan, Officer Newsom, and Officer Alfaro received Lifesaver Awards for their actions to save the lives of two shooting victims in October. The three officers quickly used their training to apply life saving techniques to both victims. The officers ’ immediate actions were critical in saving the lives of the two victims.

Text 911 Now Available The Tarrant County 9 - 1 - 1 District launched Text to 911 in November 2020. Tarrant County residents can use the service to request first - responder assistance. The Tarrant County 9 - 1 - 1 District suggests including a message about the emergency and the location in the text. Photos, video or audio clips cannot be accepted at this time.
