• A “257J” female that ranks in the Top 10% of the breed for BW and CEM EPDs. She is Top 25% for Milk, $EN, and $Wean. Two maternal brothers sold in recent sales one to Kelly Chain of Canton, Oklahoma.
• She posts a multitude of EPDs in the Top 25% of the breed being CED, BW, YW, Scrotal, Docility, CEM, Milk and $Wean. YR 108 with an Adjusted Yearling Weight of 953 pounds.
THE PATHFINDER OPPORTUNITY Molitor Angus has one of the largest numbers of Pathfinder Cows as any Registered herd in Kansas. Those females excel in fertility and progeny performance. To be a Pathfinder, a female has to have the opportunity to reach that status. At Molitor Angus, every female starts out with the opportunity. Starting about April 10 th , we start breeding our replacement heifers on a natural cycle basis. About May 20 th , all heifers are put to grass with a pasture bull. Two-year-old cows with their first calves are all put to grass in mid-April for natural service. This group of 60 head are used to help prove our young herd sires by getting at least 15 progeny each from those bulls. Three-year-old and older cows that calve before February 25 th are AI’d on a natural cycle basis for about 30 days and then put to pasture. At Molitor Angus, genetics do play a role in developing a Pathfinder Cow but you must give that cow the opportunity to show her potential. The Pathfinder Angus program was started in 1978 in an effort to identify superior cows in the breed based on their records of performance from Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR). In identifying these superior cows, emphasis was placed on early puberty, breeding and early calving, followed by regularity of calving and above-average performance of the offspring. In addition, bulls that have sired a minimum of five or more Pathfinder Cows are listed as Pathfinder Sires in this report.
