Generators
Selection Guide
TOTAL HARMONIC DISTORTION (THD) CONTINUED As a general guideline: - Less than 5% THD – Suitable for sensitive electronic equipment - 5%–10% THD – Acceptable for most standard tools and appliances - Above 10% THD – May cause damage or unreliable operation in electronic devices
High THD can result in overheating, poor performance, system errors, or permanent damage to sensitive equipment.
PURE SIGNWAVE POWER A pure sine wave is the smooth and consistent waveform supplied by mains electricity from the grid.
Inverter generators are designed to produce this type of output by electronically regulating and refining the power produced by the engine. This results in: - Stable voltage and frequency - Low harmonic distortion - Safe operation of sensitive electronics
Generators that produce pure sine wave output with low THD (typically under 5%) are considered to provide clean power and are recommended for powering modern electronic devices.
ALL BE GENERATORS FEATURE PURE SIGN WAVE OUTPUT
TEMPERATURE AND ALTITUDE Both temperature and altitude have a parasitic effect on generator operation - both may require a “derate” of the available kW displayed on the nameplate. When ambient or outside temperature exceeds 40°C, it becomes necessary to derate generator output. The chart below gives the recommended amount to adjust for this higher temperature. Higher altitudes also require a derate, specifically when it exceeds 1000 metres. Again, please refer to the Altitude Deration chart below to determine the necessary derate factor.
Please refer to table below for deration coefficients.
USAGE GAUGES
MEANING Designed for light, occasional use around the home. Suitable for small tasks like powering basic appliances, DIY projects, or inflating tyres and sports equipment. Best for users who need convenience and portability rather than high output or continuous operation. Ideal for regular use in home workshops or small-scale trade work. Handles more demanding tools and longer run times than domestic models. A good choice for serious DIYers or part-time professionals who need reliable performance without full industrial capacity. Built for frequent, high- performance use in trade environments. Capable of powering heavy-duty tools and running for extended periods. Designed for durability, efficiency, and consistent output—suited to contractors and full-time professionals who rely on their equipment daily. Engineered for continuous, heavy-duty operation in demanding environments such as construction sites, factories, or large-scale operations. Delivers maximum power, durability, and reliability under constant load. Ideal for users who require uninterrupted performance and the highest output levels.

Max Watts: The extra short-term power available to start motors or equipment with high startup demand. Standby Power: Standby Power is rated at an extra 10% for one hour of use, perfect for mains failure applications that require short burst of power to start multiple appliances Prime Power: Prime power is rated at continuous use of resistive loads. Operational Considerations: All machines are rated at <1000M Altitude and at 40°C ambient temperature. Please refer to table below for deration coefficients. IMPORTANT NOTES

(i) Sensitive electronic equipment should only be powered by generators with less than 5% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) or by inverter generators. (ii) Specifications may vary between manufacturers. This guide is for reference only—always confirm that your appliance or tool is suitable before use. (iii) When running multiple items, ensure the combined load does not exceed the generator’s maximum output. Exceeding the rated capacity may void the generator warranty.
