December Sold 2021

SOLD at AUCTION… | Wednesday 24th NOVEMBER 2021 …SOLD at AUCTION… Wednesday 24th NOVEMBER 2021

I can tell! With years of experience on the rostrum and a live audience in front of me I could read the atmosphere in the room and the body language of the bidders such as the nudge of a partners arm to encourage another bid, the anxious looks around the room to seek out rival bidders as well as those who simply stared at me intending to make a last minute bid as I was bringing down the gavel for the final time! A pause and a sip of my ubiquitous glass of water soon sorted out these dramatic tactics and when I was finally able to bang the gavel down I was assured I had reached the best possible price. One would have thought with the introduction of Live Online Auctions all this emotion and drama would be lost as I stand in front of a camera watching a screen but whether it is just a skilled knowledge of the properties on offer, the live updates on the screen or even telepathy “I can tell” when there is still just one last bid and the “glass of water” always helps! Our November auction confirmed all of the above and with properties on offer from around the region I was not disappointed. As ever, the Cotswolds proved to be a winner with a wonderful cottage with far reaching views and an acre of woodland soared past its guide price of £400,000 to sell for an amazing £580,000. Memories were aroused for me with the sale of an restaurant and flats in Princess Victoria Street, for it was here in this very restaurant that the famous Keith Floyd set up one of his first enterprises. I used to take my future wife there for dinner which was hugely entertaining – the food was fantastic and the atmosphere even more so. Keith was certainly a “Bonne Viveur” host and enjoyed the food and, mostly the wine, even more than the guests often forgetting the oven was going full blast. One was never sure whether you had time to finish the meal before the fire brigade arrived! With 100% of the properties sold and excellent prices being achieved it proves my point that Live OnLine Auctions are no barrier to the traditional skills of auctioneering and whilst it feels like the future has arrived the old skills remain just as relevant… Watch out potential bidders “I Can Tell” !
