the races in our district, the Japanese pre dominating'. Many were from Buddhist homes and were accustomed to attend Buddhist Sunday schools.. They knew nothing o f the Bible. We had 'hymns, Bible stories, Psalm memorizing, calis thenics and manual work, and some secu lar songs. After the DVBS we finished our survey of Kakaako. We were able to leave printed matter advertising the Mis sion and containing Scripture and tracts and picture cards in every home we vis ited. We have since been able to hold street meetings in places that we did not know existed before the survey.” Jay Davis, '19, writes: " I am stationed in Beersheba, 50 miles south of Jerusalem. I understand there Is nothing to show the site of the old cify of Beersheba. The present city was laid out by the Turks after the model of a modern city with wide streets. The stores and markets are very oriental. There are probably 1,500 people in the village. Wednesday is the big market day. Arabs come on their camels great distances with produce to sell in the market. A great many gather on Tuesday and sleep on the ground so as to be ready for the market Wednesday. We have had great blessing in preaching to them. I generally spend part of my Saturdays with our native evangelist among the Bedouin camps preaching the gospel.” Albert L. Johnson, '15, writes from Fan- cheng, Hupeh, China: “This summer we had the pleasure to see and hear Dr. Torrey again. We have been very short of workers the last few years, and it has
made demands upon us that have been hard to meet. Now the Lord has stirred up a greater interest in the homeland, and so we are getting our stations well manned and are taking steps to open a new and neglected field. Last spring was really the best period I have had in China as far as the evangelistic work is con cerned. Pray that God may send a re vival upon us.” O. J. Kirk, ’18, Aba, Congo Beige, writes: “I sometimes wonder just how it would be for us out here and in other lands if the people at home would fail to pray for us. X know many a one who has stood behind us at home will share in the rewards in that great day from the many who have been saved in these dark lands. How I long more and more to go out to those who have never heard the old story. It is so easy to keep busy and get nowhere, just work around in a little circle and not reach out. One can so easily lose the great, vision
