THE K I N G ' S BUS I NE S S been very encouraging lately and seven ooys have professed conversion this last month and two or three more have ex pressed a desire to become evangelists and accept Christ. The daughter of our landlady was converted in the girls’ school at San Pedro the last of May. She is the only girl convert in Toracari and we are anxious to help her all we can. We have just finished tinting and paper ing the room where we hold the meet ings and putting up unbleached muslin for a celling. Kenneth is just making a platform of boards for the pulpit and organ. Gladys and George Eckdahl were here with us for about ten days in June and we enjoyed their visit so much.” m m THE SPADE WINS The spade comes again to the de fense of the Bible. Dr. Wallis Burge, one of the leading explorers of Egypt, has been engaged in reading the rec ords of the most ancient of the Egyp tians. .In these he finds the people be lieved in one God, self-existent, life- giving, omnipotent. In a hymn to Ham they declared that God cannot be fig ured in stone, that His dwelling place could not be found out, and that all blessings flowed from Him. Dr. Burge declares that the religion of these earliest Egyptians resembled that of the Hebrews, and he quotes largely from their writers in proof of it. The spade had already shown that the oldest Egyptians had the highest civilization. Now it shows that the Bible story that all men had originally a knowledge of the great God and only adopted idolatry as they degenerated, is true. The spade has been a great factor in making evolution only a dis credited guess of scientists of the sec ond rank. Far the greatest men, like Virchow, Agassiz and Kelvin, never accepted Darwin’s views. Yet these cold facts will not prevent the next Sophomore, whose assurance is only equalled by his ignorance, from assert ing that evolution is established.— L. W. Munhall.

He is coming again. I love Him. You should love Him. Jesus loves you.’ I stumbled over it, but He enabled me. The intonation is so .hard. God blesses His word. The one to whom I preached those few words came to the compound today to hear us sing and preach. He wants to know Jesus.” B. I* Litchman, '17, Mbi, Kilo, Congo Beige, writes: “The need is great, count less millions slain yearly by the heartless one, Satan. Pray that God will thrust out more workers into the rip.ened harvest Held. Pray that God will keep those out who have gone out and keep them from getting discouraged. The people are in the throes of superstition, and until re cently it was difficult to get anyone to come to religious service, but suddenly the people came—fifty, sixty to 100 and 120 at a time. What changed these people all of a sudden? God! Oh, that I may preach and live before them so that I might win them for Christ. One of the main things is to pray that I may have patience, grace and endurance when dealing with these people.” Charles G. Sprout, ’17, writes from Ba- fuka, Congo Beige: “I would earnestly solicit your continued prayers in behalf of the work here, as the prospect of build ing up a strong native church is bright. One can never tell what evil forces are at work, and so we need to be on our guard all the more.” Van V. Eddings writes from Carupano, Venezuela: “We close this year with hearts full of joy and thanksgiving to the Lord for the wonderful things He has been pleased to do for us since last Christ mas. The getting of our goods in free of duty, the beginning of the preaching ser vices, the getting of the property which has met the needs of the mission home, the reduction -of the debt upon the prop erty, the supply of our needs as a family and mission, are things that call for praise and thanksgiving to God, the Giver of all. Add to these the spiritual blessings in our own lives, and then the regenerating power shown in those who, a year ago, were dead in trespasses and sins, so that now over twenty are really born again. Through the three new missionaries (Mr. and Mrs. Turner and Miss Williams) we will be able to reach new towns this year. Already there are those who have taken the Word, and the way is prepared for its preaching.” Mrs Kenneth Powlinson writes from Toracari, Bolivia: “The work here has
