THE K I NO ’ S BUS I NE S S ing to be intimidated by men who give themselves to disorder, riot and mur der, then I fear that there will be grave troubles, unless the authorities will show in a real manner that they áre going to keep order at all costs. The whole trouble is fomented by people who have neither the cause of the Jew nor the cause of the Arab at heart, enemies of Great Britain, yea, enemies of the cause of Evangelical Christian ity. As I stated, the military are in charge of Jerusalem. Saturday, the twelfth, was the anniversary of the birth of Mohammed, the Moslem Prophet, and grave fears were entertained. There fore, the military took possession of all the approaches to the city. Soldiers fully armed and wearing trench hel mets, were everywhere, and no gather- ingp of people were allowed. All car riages and vehicles entering the city were searched. Dr. and Mrs. Patter son, coming from Hebron in a motor car, were also searched. Thus the day passed off quietly, without any dis turbance. The strange thing is that not only are the Jews afraid, but the Christians are also afraid, and this is a phenome non I cannot fully solve. The so-called Christians have joined with the Arabs against the Jews, therefore they should not be afraid, but why are they in such a state of fear? I asked this question of several of these Christians. They have done the same thing in Jerusalem as they did at Haifa, when the troubles took place, namely, they have painted large crosses outside their doors, as if the mere painting of a cross could pre serve the soul of a man. I had cause to tell these people that, the sign of the cross does not save people from per dition. It is only taking the literal Jesus, Who died on the Gross, that will save them. Thus, also, the mere painting of a cross on a door will not

save them from the destroyer when de struction comes. m DR. PENTECOST’S PLEDGE After the death of Dr. George F. Pen tecost, pastor of Bethany Church, Phil adelphia, a few months ago; the follow ing was found in a Bible in his study: I Take ........................ God the Father to be my God (1 Thess. 1 :9). Jesus Christ to be my Saviour (Acts 5:31). The Holy Ghost to be my Sanctifier (1 Peter 1 :2). The Word of God to be my Rule (2 Tim. 3:16, 17). The people of God to be my people (Ruth 1:16). I Give Myself, all that I am and all that I have, to the Lord (Rom. 12:1, 2). And I do this— Deliberately (Josh. 25:15); Sincerely (2 Cor. 1 :12); Freely (Psalm 110:3); Forever (Rom. 8:35-39). Here I give my all to Thee: Talents, time, and earthly store— Soul and body Thine to be, Only Thine, for evermore! (Signed) George F. Pentecost. ONE THING THAT PAYS Of all the virtues, cheerfulness is the most profitable. It makes the person who exercises it happy, and renders him acceptable to all he meets. While other virtues defer the day of recompense, cheerfulness pays down. It is a cos metic, which makes homeliness graceful and winning; it promotes health, and gives clearness and vigor to the mind; it is the bright weather of the heart, in contrast to the clouds and gloom of melancholy.
