years old. Mother had been out calling on some friends and took the little girl with her, and when they came home she asked the little girl to take off her nice white dress to keep it clean to wear at her birthday party the next day. The mother was busy about the house for some time, and then she thought of the little girl, for she had not come to mother to have her dress unbuttoned. She called several times, but no an swer came. Then she went out in the yard, and there stood the little girl cry ing. The pretty white dress was not only covered with mud, where she had fallen down, but torn, too. What do you suppose she wore at the birthday party next day? Just a plain little col ored dress, to help her remember how she had disobeyed mother by playing in her nice white dress when mother asked her to change it. Lesson Story.—Who went on an er rand for God in our story last week? Yes,- Amos went to take a message of warning to Israel, and even though it was not a pleasant task, Amos obeyed God’s word and warned the people. Those people would not listen to Amos, and do you know, boys and girls, there are just lots and lots of people like them today, who will not listen to the preachers and missionaries as they give forth God’s message from the Bible. People who will not heed God’s word are in great danger, just as we shall learn in our story. These people felt they were safe in their homes, but God let a great army come up and surround them for a long time, until all their food was gone and they were starving, and had to give up. Then the heathen king came into their city and drove the people away into a strange country, where many of them had a very hard life. Our story says God let this awful punishment come upon them because they had sinned against the Lord their God, who had been so good to them, and had sent His faithful and brave prophets

Personal Questions Why do Christians today insist on fol lowing so many of the world’s fads which are idolatrous? When the Christian makes anything first before God in his life is this idol atry? 1 Jno. 5:21. Is this modern Idolatry dishonoring to God? Does modern idolatry bring fearful judgments to the professing Christian as Israel’s idolatry did? What Came of Doing Wrong. 2 Kings 17:1-18. Memory Verse.—“ I will not forget thy word.” Psalm 119:16. Approach.— Boys and girls, I wonder how many of us are obedient in our home, and always do gladly whatever father or mother may ask us to do? Who are the happi- BEGINNERS est children, those AND PRIMARY always do as Mabel L. Merrill father and mother wish, or those who disobey them? Yes, the ones who obey. Just a few weeks ago I was in a home where I saw what came of wrong doing on the part of a little girl six
