to them again and again to warn them, but they would not listen. They disobey ed God and set up idols and worshipped them. O, how God was grieved to have his people turn away from Him and wor ship idols that could not help them. Now in their awful punishment they found out that their idols could not help them. Many of these people never saw their homes again. Disobedience always brings trouble to us, just as it brought trouble to the little girl, but disobedience to God brings the greatest sorrow and trouble. If people keep on disobeying and will not listen, when the time comes for- them to leave this world, they will have no home to go to, but will have to go to a strange place where there is suffering and crying all the time. God does not want anybody to suffer, and if we will obey His word He has a lovely home for us up in heaven where He is. Let us say our memory verse, and O, may we never forget it. “ I will not forget thy word.” ’ That is why we have a memory verse for each story, so we can learn these verses to help us to know just what God wants us to do. III. Israel will not hearken. Vs. 14-18. Explain verses. DRAW image of Calf and Israel worshipping. CONCLUSION. The Divine Law. “Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap.” -^'4- w> afe THOROUGH THINKING “ Gird up the loins of your mind.”—• 1 Peter. 1:13. We are all of us handicapped through lack of definiteness in thought. Our ideas of goodness, of essential Chris tianity, are loose and impractical. We are like orientals whose cloaks become blankets when they lie down to repose, and who need to gather them together and fasten them in order that they may get about the business of life. Guard yourself against a merely emo tional religion. Do not treat religion as a blanket. Take yourself in hand, and see that you know why you believe that you are saved. A “ sober” man is a man who has himself in hand, who thinks. Use and appropriate the grace that is making you ready for the mani festation of Jesus Christ in the day when God shall have brought to per fection all that He purposed in Him. The God who has called you and quick ened you is a holy God, and as His children you must see to it that every part of your conduct is holy. You are set apart to this very thing.— John Gardner.
