299 to get in, under such circumstances, is a; question. General Pershing or Pres ident Harding ought to thank God that the churches to which they belong do not demand that they should come and go in pomp and ceremony, or go through their devotions in front of a moving picture camera. Dr. A. C. Dixon, than whom there is no stronger defender of the faith in the world, recently contributed an ar ticle to a Baptist papei, reviewing con ditions as they exist in Baptist churches in England. He made a strong de nunciation of the course followed by many American Baptist preachers, in departing from the Word of God. He touched a sore spot. The “ Baptist Index” attempts to parry the force of Dr. Dix on’s article 'by putting out a smoke screen as follows: “ Until we are as sured of Dr. Dixon’s attitude on certain fundamental points now held in ques tion regarding his ministry, we with hold our opinion as to the value of his judgment upon other fellow pastors and leaders.” The editor of the “ Index” thus neatly saves himself from furnish ing any evidence as to Dr. Dixon’s ever having taught anything which would cast suspicion upon the inspiration of any portion of the Scriptures. A Jewish rabbi, Dr. Endow, has writ ten a book, “What Do Jews Believe?” He says they do NOT believe in a devil, in the corruption of the world, in orig inal sin, in the fall 'of man, in vica rious atonement, in a personal Messiah. Dr. Munhall remarks that this reminds him of the course of reading prescribed for Methodist ministers. Every now and then, in the midst of the talk about the evolution of man from the lower order, some scientist pops up with another of those ancient human skulls. Some European scien tists just now are wondering why these ancient skulls have more cranial capac ity than the average modern professor. One skull brought from Africa is de clared to have a brain capacity almost as large as that of Bismarck and larger than that of Kant. Either these fore fathers were smarter than some mod erns have believed or cranial capacity has nothing to do with mental ability. Several of our subscribers have writ ten to say that their denominational leaders deny the charge that there are

Not only do his young people dance each week in the church, but the elders, many of them descendants of the Pilgrim fathers, and the preacher. “We dance the toddle and all the modern dances,” he says. "It is the only way to save the young folks from the dance hall and the sex problem.” That’s like filling a fire- extinguisher with gasoline. It’s the only way to put out a fire. A Pennsylvania man prints a tract revealing a new-fangled method of having problems solved by the Bible. He says: “ If I doubt as to just what to do, I put a question in such a form that it may be answered by “ Yes” or “No.” I then decide upon some com mon word such as “ the” and let it stand for “ Yes” and another word, such as “ and” is made to stand for “ No.” 1 then open my Bible at random and be gin to read, and if I come to the word “ the” first, I take it that God answers “ Yes,” etc., etc., lots more of the same kind of stuff. Our frank opinion is that by making a ouija board out of the Bible one can very easily open the door wide fdr the devil to come in. William J. Bryan is writing the weekly Sunday school lesson for a syn dicate of daily papers. The lessons that have appeared show uncompromis ing faith in the Word and much ex pository ability. We are glad to have Mr. Bryan enter this field, and believe he can do an immense amount of good. Many were glad to have a look at the great hero, Marshal Poch, as he recently toured the leading American cities. It was unfortunate that he had to be toted around by the Knights of Columbus and advertised as the right hand man of the Pope. In Los Angeles, an attempt was made to have the pa rade in Foch’s honor, Sunday morning during the Sunday school and church hours. Not until the Protestant minis ters put up a stiff fight, was a change made so that Protestants could see the general. The marshal’s parades al ways seemed to lead to the door of a Catholic church. Foch could not go to “ mass” like an ordinary Catholic. His faith had to be advertised, his pic ture taken as he was in acts of wor ship, and his attendance at mass her alded to the four winds. Just how much real worship the Marshal is able
