The History of WAXIE Sanitary Supply

and wife Sadie, immigrated to the United States from Russia. Soon after settling in Utah, Isaac Wax opened several merchant supply stores in the Salt Lake Valley. The Wax family was known for going above and beyond to care for their customers, and many people in the Utah communities still tell stories of their extraordinary customer service. Sons Harry and Morris would take this dedicated spirit into their own adult lives and that’s where our story begins. THE GENESIS OF AN AMERICAN COMPANY Drawn to serve their country during World War II, both Wax brothers joined the military. Harry joined the navy in 1942 as a Seabee, the U.S. navy’s construction battalions that built land- ing facilities, airfields and other structures in combat areas. He served for two years and was discharged in 1944 after recuper- ating from injuries in Santa Cruz. From there he made his way to San Diego, where his wife Ida awaited. Morris, the younger brother, joined the Utah National Guard in 1941 and a year later was assigned to the 14th Armored Divi- sion of the U.S. Army. He rose through the ranks and was sent to officer’s school at Fort Knox, Kentucky, emerging as a second lieutenant. He earned a Bronze Star as a supply officer for the
