Mechanization helps improve cleaning efficiency and effectiveness, and well-designed and manufactured cleaning equipment represents a more sustainable choice when compared with “disposable” machines. Microfiber products contribute to better indoor air quality with their superior dust and dirt containment, while also contributing to source reduction by allowing for the use of less cleaning chemicals and water. Vacuum cleaners, which have earned the CRI Seal of Approval/Green Label Certification (and which operate at a sound level of less than 70 dB), provide superior dust retention and removal, and carpet extractors that have earned the CRI Seal of Approval provide cleaner and drier carpets, are examples of more sustainable options to mechanize your cleaning process. Machines which have earned these certifications can help a project pursuing LEED ® certification or a campus pursuing an AASHE STARS ® rating, or an organization pursuing CIMS-GB certification, or a project pursuing WELL certification.
