MICROFIBER

Microfiber is an ultra-fine synthetic fiber made from a blend of polyester and polyamide and cleaning products made from microfiber can play an important role in a low environmental impact cleaning program. Microfiber cleaning products contribute to better indoor environmental quality and occupant well- ness because of their superior dust and dirt containment when compared with other alternatives, which can be used for cleaning hard surfaces. Microfiber products also contribute to source reduc- tion by allowing for the use of less cleaning chemicals and less water in the cleaning process. A professional in the cleaning industry can incorporate microfiber cleaning products, which have

been color-coded to correspond to a cleaning function or building area to prevent cross-contamination (for example: red microfiber mops and cleaning cloths to correspond to restroom cleaning). These microfiber products can be an important component of a green cleaning program, which can help a facility reach its overall sustainability goals, and can potentially contribute to LEED O+M certification for the building or CIMS- GB certification for the cleaning service provider. WAXIE has a broad selection of microfiber cleaning products from which to choose including floor mops, dust mops, cleaning cloths and dust- ers, as well as entryway matting systems. Your WAXIE Account Consultant can work with you to design and implement a customized green cleaning program which includes microfiber products.

ENGINEERED WATER AND CLEANING WITHOUT CHEMICALS

As interest in identifying low environmental impact cleaning product solutions has continued to increase, there has also been a corresponding increase in interest for cleaning products and processes which use less chemicals to perform the cleaning function.

Whether the term “engineered water,” “electrically activated water (EAW),” “chemical-free cleaning” or “cleaning without chemicals” is used, there are a variety of cleaning technologies now available which allow for cleaning tasks to be performed without using as many pre-packaged ready-to-use cleaning chemicals or cleaning chemical concentrates. Some technologies turn water to steam, and the resulting heat of the steam vapor is used to clean and sanitize a variety of surfaces. Some technologies use electricity to convert oxygen and water into aqueous ozone, and the resulting solution of “engineered water” can be used to clean, sanitize and deodorize a variety of surfaces. Some technologies use electricity to convert minerals and water into electrolyzed water, and the resulting solution of “engineered water” can be used to clean, sanitize and deodorize a variety of surfaces. Some technologies use microfiber, and the mechanical action of the microfiber is used to enhance the cleaning efficacy of the steam, water or “engineered water” being used to clean a variety of surfaces. Some technologies use water with abrasive pads, and the mechanical action of the pads is used to strip floor finish without using chemical stripper, or clean and burnish floors without the use of other cleaning chemicals. A professional in the cleaning industry can incorporate engineered water generating solutions or tools which allow for effective mechanical cleaning to be performed without the use of chemistry. Each of these technologies can help to reduce the amount of chemicals (and the re- sulting packaging, transportation and storage costs and impacts) being used to clean a facility. Any of these options can be a component of a green cleaning program which can help a facility reach its overall sustainability goals, and can potentially contribute to LEED O+M certification for the building or CIMS-GB certification for the cleaning service provider. WAXIE has a broad selection of engineered water and “chemical-free” technologies from which to choose including commercial steam clean- ing systems which clean and sanitize using only steam vapor; dispensing systems that produce aqueous ozone or electrolyzed water solutions; microfiber cleaning cloths, dusters, floor mops and dust mops; and floor pads which strip, clean or burnish floors using only water. Your WAXIE Account Consultant can work with you to design and implement a customized green cleaning program which includes engineered water solu- tions or tools which clean without the use of chemicals.
