area has two wall jets below the neckline. Conversely, Plachter’s clients were very specific in wanting the bath shaped around a large, luxurious shower. The re- sult is impressive, especially with dark, sexy Kohler fixtures pop- ping against the lighter shades of the shower area. But O’Leary and Plachter had more to achieve, notably his and hers vanities. O’Leary gave each its own distinctive personality— in part by keeping her cabinetry creamy, while transforming his with a masculine blue. O’Leary notes that she tried to balance masculine and feminine energy throughout the space. “I chose a mix of traditional feminine crys- tal,” she says, “complemented by the straight masculine lines of
the wall sconces coming out of the mirrors.” Back at Plachter’s vanities, she was differentiating for function more than aesthetics. “They actually look like they are the same size, but they are not,” Plachter says wryly. “She got the larger one.” Nevertheless, each vanity involved custom com- ponents: here a place for her blow dryer, there a spot for his shaver. “There is a mirrored TV over the vanity as our client likes to watch TV when showering,” Plachter adds. She also notes the couple prefers single-lever faucets throughout the house, so she installed those here as well. Ultimately, both designers and clients were thrilled with the outcomes. “I love this bathroom;
