JEWELRY OF THE HOME

It’s not all about sparkle. The MTI Bowie bath and pedestal’s pleated exteriors are ornate as any Elizabethan collar.

BRIGHT SPOTS HOW THE RIGHT ACCESSORIES BECOME JEWELRY OF THE HOME

J ewelry of the home: it’s a term that’s often used to refer to lighting. And that makes sense: lights can sparkle, sway, catch the eye. Many pieces hang like drop earrings. And it’s no coincidence that the word pendant can refer just as easily to an object that hangs around your neck as one that swings from the ceiling. But if the sparkle of a sconce or chandelier can be the jewelry of the home, why stop there? You might think of personality-adding pulls as the earrings for drawers: they’re also made in shapes from simple studs to hanging hoops, in finishes that include myriad metals, and often come adorned with decorative stones or etchings. What of your fixtures? Choosing the ones that best com- plement your kitchen or bath can transform space as cer- tainly as a brooch can smarten up a jacket or a decorative pin can put the finishing touches on a special occasion hair- style. A home accessory need not be diminutive or metallic to qualify as jewelry of the home. Anything that transforms a room with decorative flair qualifies. For example, the addition of a freestanding tub with a surprising shape or a stand-out sink with an eye-catching exterior might change that room forever. Thhe pieces on the following pages make excellent candidates, but stay on the lookout for accessories that will add flair that fits your style—just as you would with jewelry.
